RAM Recognition Issue

Hello everyone,

I have a problem with my PC.

I currently have 64 GB of RAM installed in Dual Channel Slot 2 & 4. The RAM is Corsair Vengeance 3600MHz in 2x30GB.

The problem is that the motherboard, X570 X Gaming Gigabyte V.F35 (BIOS up to date), only recognizes 2x16GB.

So, the motherboard recognizes only half of the RAM size.

In CPU-Z, it indeed shows 16GB per slot, which is half of what is installed.

Everything is new, and according to the information on the Gigabyte website, it should be compatible.

So, I don’t understand...

Good evening, it's strange, it's Windows but also the BIOS that is not taking it into account?!??

"normally compatible according to the information on the Gygabite website"

What information? the frequency and size of the RAM? or the compatible references listed in the support tab of the manufacturer's website?

Exactly, Windows and the BIOS show me the same information.

In the support tab, it doesn't exceed 32GB, so I didn't find the right capacity.

But in the motherboard information, it states up to 128GB.
At first, I thought it was not compatible, but since these are recent components, I called that assumption into question.

Yes, but this information only indicates the possible capabilities of the motherboard; in reality, it depends on the RAM specifications as well as the installed processor that has the memory controller.

For your information, the processor is an AMD Ryzen 9 3950 X.

Look in the list, I didn't see the exact reference. If you bought online, like on Amazon, LDLC, Topachat, or materiel.net, the return won't cost you anything.

Yes, I had seen this list. But what seemed strange to me is that it does not mention any capacity higher than 32GB even once.

The closest reference is: CMW32GX4M4D3600C18 ver 3.31 for AMD Ryzen 5xxx, I couldn't find the CMW32GX4M2Z3600C18 in the list.

But wait for other opinions.

Okay, thank you!

After research, I found in the compatibility list exactly the same modules as yours except that they are 16GB; that's probably why your 2x32GB are recognized as 16GB, because your 32GB models are not listed in the compatibility list.

Okay,
Thank you for the information!

I have a question, I do understand your reasoning, which is logical in itself. But I believe that compatibility lists are not exhaustive because they are not complete.

Otherwise, how can one have 64 or 128 GB of RAM? That would be impossible if we follow the compatibility table.

Indeed, the table must be deciphered, but there are indeed references for 128

example:
F4-3600C18Q-128GVK

https://www.gskill.com/product/165/184/1571734430/F4-3600C18Q-128GVK-Overview

afterwards, you are not entirely wrong, many references for RAM or even SSD storage are fully functional and yet absent, let's say it is still preferable to take those listed to avoid unpleasant surprises.

Hi,
no, the list is not exhaustive at all, a lot of RAM sold in Europe are not included.

On the passioneinformatique line, it says 32GB modules validated in single and dual slot (1 and 2 modules)

Your modules are not 32GB, with the reference I find a 32GB kit in 2x16GB, where did you see that it was 32GB?

Just look at what is written on the modules' label to be sure.

That can't be it. They are either recognized or they are not recognized. If they are recognized, they will be with their correct capacity. This motherboard supports a total capacity of 128GB of RAM, or 4x32GB. While some sticks may be recognized at a frequency lower than their nominal frequencies, they cannot be recognized with a capacity lower than their actual capacity. Thus, a 32GB stick cannot be seen as a 16GB stick. If it states everywhere 2x16GB, then they are indeed 2 sticks of 16GB. Either there was incorrect information on the site where they were purchased, or the manufacturer itself made an error in the references and presented 16GB sticks as 32GB sticks. It cannot be otherwise.

Yes, indeed, upon reflection, it seems totally logical. I didn't pay attention, like a fool, to check the reference of its memory sticks with the author; I directly trusted it and began to imagine the possibility that the amount of RAM might not be fully recognized.

What do you do with your PC that would require 128GB of RAM? The majority of people are still using 16GB (2x8GB). 32GB is already for exceptional use cases.

I do 4K editing, using Premiere Pro, After Effects, 3D, etc.

I'm in touch with Amazon; at €450, I hadn't thought about that.
I'll check with the box and I'll return the sticks.
Thanks to everyone, I'll keep you updated quickly.

May I bother you a little more? Could you please advise me on purchasing RAM?
Should I go for 64 or 128 GB to avoid buying just anything?

I have examined all the software you mentioned, but only Adobe Premiere Pro:

Minimum configuration: 8GB of RAM;

Recommended configuration: - 16GB of RAM for HD media
- 32GB of RAM for 4K media or higher.

So if 32GB seems insufficient to you, you can upgrade to 64GB and that will be more than enough.

It's the 3D renders that are the most RAM-intensive, and with the arrival of 8K with the Komodo and Alexa, I prefer to be on the safe side.

Which reference would you recommend that would be compatible? Thanks in advance.
