Black and white VHS playback
Good evening everyone,
I have a VHS recorded in Pal, and my Pal/Secam VCR plays it in black and white on a (recent) TV and also in black and white on the PC via a capture device. The image and sound are of good quality.
However, this VCR should be able to play this Pal format in color since it's a Pal/Secam, right?
I changed the settings of the capture device to Pal
But nothing works, it's still in black and white. Well, I don't care about watching this VHS in color on my TV, I mainly want to digitize it in color on my PC.
Any opinions, advice please? Honestly, I'm lost here! Thank you for reading.
Edit: details: my other VHS tapes, recorded in Secam, are played in color.

Hello and welcome to this forum,
Are you sure that this VHS is in PAL and not in NTSC?
Have you cleaned the heads of the player because often the first information lost on a VHS is the color

Yes, I am certain because at the very beginning of the playback, "Pal" is displayed on the screen for a few seconds.
Note that on this same 4-hour tape, a second recording is present (in color) and this time "Secam" is mentioned.
The head cleaning is up to date.
I believe that the first recording on this VHS was made with the VCR set to Pal on a TV set to Secam, so this video was simply recorded in black and white. So, apparently, there's nothing to be done... unfortunately. -
Indeed, nothing to be done, I'm really sorry for you...;-(
