Hello everyone,

Due to an issue, I reset an Asus laptop from a USB key. Everything went very well until I tried to format my USB key..

Two folders were present in my devices and drives, one with the name of the image and another called UEFI NTFS..
I started by formatting the image thinking it was linked to the UEFI, but the UEFI remained. I deleted it with the clean command in diskpart.
I then went into the manager thinking I could combine the two "partitions" on my USB key, but the old UEFI became Disk 1, Unknown, Not Initialized, Unallocated, 20MB and I can't do anything with it.
It also became PS3109S9 in my device manager.

I have searched through a ton of forums online, tried several partition management software, but nothing works...
I can't initialize the disk, I can't create a partition, I can't do anything; I can unplug the USB key and it still remains there...

I spent my whole day on this, reset the PC again and nothing has changed, it's still there...

Can you help me? I'm about to give up and just leave it like this because I'm so frustrated! ^^'

Also, this error message appears when opening the disk manager, and regardless of the choice made, the error remains the same...

  I suggest you do this in CMD:
  diskpart
  list disk
  
  Do you see disk 1?
  
  Otherwise, in disk management, as you show, it suggests initializing disk 1 of 20 MB, do it in GPT, it will be easier to delete!

  Yes, disk 1 is present.
  I have already cleaned it using diskpart.

Hello, try with gparted (live CD) burned on a CD.

I have the impression that Windows has created some sort of error in the formatting, but in the end this disk isn't really present...

I just saw that the PS3109S9 has also appeared in the BIOS

I really feel like taking apart the hard drive, formatting it, and reinstalling Windows...

  I don't think we need to do all that! If he's not really here, he’s not bothering us that much...
  So do a "crystaldiskinfo" test, I think it will be there, or not!
  And in the BIOS, can you disable it?

  I see... But since the PC has just been reset and a Windows installation is quite fast, it would have saved me the hassle. :)
  But if there's a simpler solution, I'm all for it!

  Do you want to remove the hard drive, format it from another PC via an external enclosure? That would be the best option, I think!

  No, nothing is possible from the BIOS and I don't know enough to mess around with it.. :)
  And yes, for now the PC runs like this, there’s just the window if we open the disk manager. And 20 MB, whether it's really there or not, is not a big problem..
  
  Yes, to disassemble it, format it from a case, and reinstall Windows.
  I have a case, I've never reinstalled Windows on a blank hard drive, but since my attempt at resetting from a USB stick was successful, I should be able to manage it!? :)

  Make sure to properly set the hard drive to NTFS, since the BIOS should already be in UEFI mode, that should be fine. Set the USB drive to boot first in the BIOS boot options, then start the Windows installation!

Hello,

I haven't seen the answer to this question: Does the phantom drive disappear when you remove the USB key?

If so, the issue comes from the key; otherwise, we should check what's connected to the SATA port 2.

    No idea... It's a laptop from 2016/2017.
    Thinking back, I seem to remember having display issues on the Windows explorer at some point after managing to do I don't know what manipulation...
