Controller losing control issue

Hello,
I've been having a problem with my controller for some time now. I'm playing, everything is fine, and then suddenly I lose all control and the camera on the screen goes completely haywire. Usually, I have to wait about ten seconds or turn off the controller (if I manage to regain control long enough to do so) for it to stop. I don't think it's an issue with the controllers themselves because it started at the same time with both of my controllers, and to be sure, I borrowed a friend's controller and had the same issue.
It seems to improve when I play with the controllers plugged into the console.
I've already tried resetting them, but that doesn't help.
No matter how much I search, I keep coming across forums where people talk about changing parts of their controller or resetting it, but I think my problem comes from the console itself.
