PS4 controller not recognized by my PC

Question

Hello, I have a problem with my PS4 controller (almost new, used very few times). It works fine, the LED light is red or blue depending on the battery, etc. But when I plug it in via USB to my PC, it doesn’t recognize it; there’s no little sound when you plug in a mouse, for example. I tried installing DS4Windows (and other similar software), I tried resetting the controller, changing the USB port just in case, but nothing works. I’m desperate.

I just checked in audio and there's nothing when I plug it in, no light if I don't do anything (if I press the home button it just blinks blue and that's it). I just tested it in games too (on the same game, Rocket League) but it doesn't work.

I'm also on PC, and I have no problem with my PS4 controller; I plug it in with its charging cable into the USB port of the PC, it lights up orange and there's no beeping sound.

I click on the bottom right of the desktop next to the clock, I go to > Settings > Devices > and in Audio, I have > Wireless controller and it's my PS4 controller
I know it's weird why it's in Audio, Windows lol.

I play Rocket League with my PS4 controller and it's working perfectly, no issues. So check like I did and test it; maybe it works in-game.

Yeah, it's strange, if you connect it via USB and there's no light, either your controller has a problem or your charging cable does. Connect your controller to another USB port to see if it does the same thing.

Otherwise, try resetting your PS4 controller, there's a button underneath the controller that you can press with a toothpick, then sync your controller with the cable.

If it persists, try another USB cable to see if it's the cable that's the issue?

I tried everything you told me, changing the cable, changing the USB port, resetting the controller (multiple times), yet the controller works fine on my phone, for example, via Bluetooth.

In the DS4 software, it is not recognized, but it works on my phone (I don't have a PS4).
My PC is almost new, I just got it a month ago.
When I connect the controller to any USB port, it doesn't light up, although it is fully charged and everything. My PC is a desktop, so there is no Bluetooth.

I tried using the command prompt; I had some corrupted files, but even after rebooting the PC, the problem persists :(

Alright, I thought you had a PS4 since you had the controller, my bad.
Yeah, it's really strange that your PC doesn't detect your PS4 controller or that
your Windows has a problem.

Did you go to Settings > Devices > Add Bluetooth or other device > check the options provided, try the last one > everything else and test?

Look in the same place under Audio, it shows me Wireless controller and that's my PS4 controller lol

If nothing works, try another controller to see? Otherwise, you might need to reset your Windows or restore it to an earlier date if you made a backup.

Hello, I don't think it makes sense to reinstall Windows. For me, the problem is the USB port of your controller that might be defective. Have you ever charged it, and if so, how?

Personally, I have a somewhat similar problem: when I connect my controller via USB, there’s an error message saying the device is not recognized, and in the device manager, the error is: device descriptor request failed, and it’s also not showing up in ds4windows

Personally, I tried changing the cable and now it works.

Hello or good evening, I'm resurrecting this post to share what worked in my case.
I had exactly the same problem, namely when I plugged in the controller, an orange light would flash for 1 second, then nothing, no "toulouloum," the classic sound when connecting a device, nothing at all.

In the end, I noticed in Settings > Devices that "Wireless Controller" was showing up under audio devices. When I clicked on it, it told me something like "faulty device" or "driver not recognized," I’m not sure exactly what the message was, sorry.
Anyway, right-click on the said Controller, delete. Then I unplugged the controller, plugged it back in, and toulouloum, the sound I expected and the controller reinstallation.
Except it reappears in the audio devices.
I right-clicked on "devices and printers," and here, the controller also appeared. A right-click gave me access to audio settings; personally, I disabled it for the controller, since I’m not using it for that.
I checked the game controller settings, and the controller was recognized, the button tests worked.
Game launched, the controller is working again!!

I think the issue comes from a conflict of use, the controller is a bit schizophrenic, and doesn't know whether to behave as a controller or an audio device... To be continued if it acts up again, but for now I’m fine!

Hello, I know it's been a little while since the issue was posted, but maybe I can help some people.

For my part, I had the same problem, namely that my PS4 controller was not recognized by my PC when I connected it via USB, and even with DS4 it didn’t work. However, I resolved my issue with the help of Bourgoull's response.

I still recommend that before anything else, you update Windows, restart your PC, and unplug/replug your controller using another cable and/or USB port to see if it's not a hardware issue.

I want to point out that I used Windows 10 so I don't know if this works on other versions.

1) To do this, go to the Windows settings in the devices section. Scroll down until you see the audio category and click on wireless controller.

2) Then, click on remove and unplug/replug your controller. After that, go to devices and printers; it’s located at the bottom of this page and is written in blue.

3) Then, right-click on your controller (named wireless controller) and click on audio settings. Normally, you should be directly on the Playback tab, but if not, click on it.

4) Check your list of devices, and if you see a green circle next to the device named wireless controller, it means you had the same problem as me.

5) Right-click on it and then disable it.

6) Then go to the device you use for sound on your PC (it depends on which one you use; you have to find the one you were using as a default sound output) and right-click on it, set it as the default device.

7) After that, go to the recording tab and do exactly the same thing starting from step 4. Then click OK, and you can close everything. Normally, once that's done, it should work again.

That's all, for me this technique worked, I hope it will work for you too; feel free to reply if you have any issues, I might be able to help you.
