Hello,

I picked up an old Asus Notebook F6VE, it must be from 2008 and it runs on Vista. I formatted the hard drive to restore the factory settings, it works fine. But...

Problem No. 1:

I can hardly use the Internet.

Connection is fine, but the version of Internet Explorer must be outdated, I get error messages on every page (certificate issues), I can force access most of the time, but not on pages where I want to enter personal information (so I can't access my Gmail, Drive accounts, etc...). I installed Chrome but it's even worse: at the slightest search I get "your connection is not private" and everything blocks ????????

Problem No. 2:

What can I replace Vista with?

Windows 7 is already out, Windows 8 doesn't appeal to me at all and Windows 10 might be very complicated to run properly on my old machine (even if it seems compatible).

I thought about Linux, but I won't have my Gmail, Drive, Deezer apps, etc.

Therefore, I want to install Cloudready to have an equivalent of Chromium OS, which I find quite appealing, but to download it, I need a PC with Google Chrome, and as mentioned above, I can't get Chrome to work on this PC and even less connect to my Google account!!!

I'm going in circles, I don't have the beginning of a solution ????

Can you help me?
Anyway, thank you for reading!

Happy May Day, have a nice day ;)

Configuration: Android / Chrome 81.0.4044.117

      I'm really liking this!
I'll give it a try, thank you very much :)
I'm a beginner and I've never done an installation from a bootable USB drive, so... Fingers crossed!!

      Not resolved for now :(
I downloaded the disk image for the Android OS, but I can't download software to create a bootable USB stick.
Neither Chrome nor Safari nor Internet Explorer works well enough; I get stuck on many pages or it tells me it has downloaded, but there's nothing on my PC.
I don't know what to do anymore...

Damn. The idea was to have a working PC right now, but I understand that I have no choice.
Thank you very much for your help. And since I've gotten answers to all my questions, I'll close the topic
      :)
      Have a great weekend!

    Hello,

You also have the option to install a Linux distribution like Mint for example, which is easier to set up.
