Cycle Redundancy Check Error / Unable to Copy File

Hello everyone,

for the past 2/3 days, without any particular changes to my PC, I can no longer copy files from my hard drive to either a USB stick or another hard drive.
What's strange is that the files (movies, in this case) remain accessible and functional; I can still read them from their current location, but I can't copy or move them...
My setup is as follows:
A 250 GB SSD as C (recently installed a few weeks ago, with the OS transferred to it)
A 1TB HDD divided into 2 equal partitions, E and F, which is the one causing problems, at least partition E. It was housing Windows until I installed my SSD, and there are still duplicates between the two, but that hasn't caused any issues until now.
I did some digging and ran chkdsk in the command prompt, RAS on partition F but on E I got this error message at the start of the command (sorry I can't provide a screenshot without registering):

C:\WINDOWS\system32>chkdsk /f E:
The file system type is NTFS

Chkdsk could not execute because the volume is being used by another process
(Even though I just started the PC and nothing is running)
Chkdsk can run after this volume is unmounted. OPEN DESCRIPTORS ON THIS VOLUME WILL NO LONGER BE VALID. Do you want to force the unmounting of this volume? Y/N

After some hesitation regarding the meaning of the phrase in uppercase, I clicked YES, with a bead of sweat on my forehead.
The analysis went well, and it told me that some errors had been corrected. I restarted the PC and it no longer recognized the hard drive. Neither E nor F were showing in the PC...
I had to open the beast, disconnect the SATA, power it on, power it off again, reconnect the SATA, and power the PC back on... Phew, they were back.

I eventually found somewhere that it was a cyclic redundancy problem (I think I initiated a disk scan using a utility)
But my problem is still there, impossible to copy a movie...

My question is quite simple: since chkdsk doesn’t seem to work, does anyone have another solution to suggest?
I thought about doing a system restore, but I'm not sure it would solve anything, what do you think?

I believe I've covered the issue, if you need any further details, feel free to ask, I remain quite skeptical about this problem...
I will come back to edit if a detail comes back to my memory.

Thank you in advance!!

Configuration: Windows 10, / Chrome 81.0.4044.129

Hello,

To read: https://www.malekal.com/erreur-de-donnees-controle-de-redondance-cyclique/

and:

First check the hard drive: How to check the health of your hard drive
With CrystalDiskInfo
- Download CrystalDiskInfo
The status should be blue, otherwise it's not a good sign.
More explanations: CrystalDiskInfo: Check the health status of your hard drive.

Good evening Malekal and thank you for your reply,

in addition to my first post, the error message I get when copying a file is as follows:
unable to read from the source file or diskette

under CrystalDisk it is in yellow with 3 points noted:
05 Number of reallocated sectors
C5 Number of "unstable" sectors
C6 Total number of uncorrectable sector errors

Does this inspire anything for you?

I had already found your link at the top and did most of the checks...

The disk is dying.

Run a checkdisk in the command line.
You need to enter the following command in an elevated command prompt:
chkdsk c: /R /F

This will prompt you to run the analysis on Windows restart, accept it.

(assuming it's the C: drive - otherwise correct in the command)

Okay, I'm going to do that. I'm already starting to save what I can.

It's strange that on the same hard drive, I'm having this copying issue on partition E, but not on F, right?
It works for me because that's where I have my personal documents, photos in particular, etc. ...

Then how can I recover my data from partition E? Do you have a free data recovery tool to recommend?

It depends on where the defective sectors are located; they may be concentrated in the same area of the disk.

Could a proper formatting of the hard drive remedy the problem and allow me to continue using it afterwards, once my data is backed up?

No, maybe low-level formatting can help, it depends on whether it's physical or not.
