JVC GR-D240E audio issue
Hello
I tried to search the forum high and low but couldn’t find an answer to my issue... just the same question from 2007 that seemed to have gone unanswered in the forum community. My son found an old camcorder in our closet where we have videos of my kids when they were babies (the first videos are from 2006). It’s great, but unfortunately, the sound doesn't come out: sometimes I hear bits of speech, sometimes static, and sometimes I don’t know what... in short, we can’t get any sound. What a shame!! Is there anything I can do to try to see where the problem might be? I’ve tried with several tapes, I’ve tried connecting it to the TV... same issue. I can’t connect it to a computer because I don’t have the right cable (but I assume the problem would be the same) and there’s no headphone output to try... is there anything that needs cleaning? If someone could help me, I would be the happiest because, in addition, on one tape, I see my dad talking, who has passed away... thank you for your help.

Hello and welcome to this forum,
A cleaning of the reading heads is necessary either with a cleaning cassette or by "getting your hands dirty", see this video:

Yes, I finally looked at the classifieds, but it's still not cheap, even on Le Bon Coin... I found one for €80, but that's an amount I hadn't planned to spend, especially after all the recent price increases... so I'm wondering if it wouldn't be cheaper to have them digitized... my son found 5 tapes.
- I recommend here, it's a friend, a former director and technician at Sud Radio:

But you're welcome, and no, don't hit, another option is to buy a second-hand mini DV camcorder, you can find them cheap on the bay or in the corner
