Hello,
I have a TV with HDMI ports, a SCART socket, and audio inputs. I also have the Freebox with HDMI and AV video, but no SCART. My home theater system is from 2001; it has a SCART socket but no HDMI or S-video. I have no idea how to connect the Freebox to the home theater system so that I can get 5.1 sound.
I used to have Canal Sat connected through the SCART and it worked very well. Now we only have the Freebox, and I can't figure out how to connect everything. I've been at it for 4 hours, feeling discouraged. ????

The two "digital in" inputs both support 5.1
So yes, the easiest option seems to be an optical cable from the box to the home theater amp.
You do indeed need to buy the cable if you don't have it, for example this one which is 1.8 meters long.
You can also connect in other ways possibly without buying a cable, but then you won't get 5.1, only stereo.

Hi,
What are the references of the home cinema amplifier, the TV, and the Freebox?

I had Canal Sat before connected via the SCART and it worked very well
But it couldn't work in 5.1, the SCART connector only delivers mono or stereo.
I see two solutions:
- Connect the Freebox to the TV via HDMI. Then connect a digital coaxial cable from the TV to the home cinema amplifier.
- Connect the Freebox to the TV via HDMI. Then connect a digital optical cable from the Freebox to the home cinema amplifier.
The home theater amplifier has a digital coaxial input, highlighted by me in white:
And the TV's technical specifications indicate that it has an audio output of the same type.
In your first photo of the Freebox, we see a digital optical output, highlighted in green:
And the amplifier also has a digital optical input, highlighted in pink (it's nice to vary the colors!!):
Otherwise, you can always connect via RCA from the box or the TV, but then there's no 5.1, only stereo.

It's really nice of you to guide me, thank you very much
So the digital 1 that you circled in white is connected to the DVD player, so I can't use that slot. I still tried to connect it to the Free on the red socket but it didn't work. However, in the amplifier, there is a digital 2 (stb) port; maybe I can plug an optical cable there which I would connect to the Free in the spot you circled in green? I need to buy the cable... what do you think?

And of course, select the right source on the amplifier.
You could probably connect everything without having to buy a cable, for example by connecting your DVD player via SCART or RCA, and the same for the box/TV, but it gets quite messy to keep track of it all via a forum.
