Table of contents issue in Word titles not included

Hello,

I have a problem with the table of contents in Word; it doesn't always recognize the headings. I create a style every time. And when I click on update the table of contents, nothing happens.

How can I fix my problem?

    Only styles Title1, Title2, Title3, etc. are used by an automatic TOC.

      Ok. And also, how can I stop it from highlighting the titles in the table of contents in gray? Apparently, it would be in Word's preferences under display, but I don't have what they mention.
