Hello,
I am new to the forum. I hope to find an answer to my problem here, as I've browsed quite a few sites explaining different things regarding tables of contents, but I haven't found my specific case :-(
Let me explain...
I formatted a report using styles that I customized for my client. I had to create this document in three languages. Now when I want to update the table of contents, a window opens saying
"To add or remove items from the table of contents, select the text in your document, then perform one of the following operations:
Apply a heading style from the styles gallery located under the Home tab.
Modify the hierarchical level of the text using the add text menu in the table of contents group under the References tab."
When I click OK, it tells me "NO TABLE OF CONTENTS ENTRY WAS FOUND."
Initially, I inserted my table by going to the "References" menu to insert a table of contents. In the window that opens, I go to "Options", check "styles" and "hierarchical level", select the headings and levels I need, and click OK. All of this goes smoothly, but when I want to update the entire table, it gets stuck :-(
Can someone explain to me why or what I did wrong?

Hello,
get back the custom styles you created for the titles. In "Format," "Paragraph," make sure you have assigned a hierarchical level (level to be assigned based on what you want to see in the table of contents). Recreate the table of contents by checking "Hierarchical levels" without worrying about the styles.

Here is what was missing from the tutorials I watched! Indeed, the level assignment to the titles was well done in terms of the titles selected throughout the text, but when I looked in the Formatting / Paragraph menu, all these titles appeared as "body text"! ... which explains why, when inserting the table of contents, I received the message: "start by assigning styles to your titles!!" ... which I thought I had done correctly, but it did not show in the Formatting / Paragraph section!! Strange, but it was by displaying the titles at that level that everything got sorted out! Thank you!
