Hello,
I just moved into a new apartment and the RJ45 sockets are wired with regular telephone cables...(white, gray, red, blue, purple, brown, orange, yellow). I know this isn't ideal, but I would still like to connect a TV decoder at the other end.
Can you help me with the color matching between the RJ45 socket currently wired as follows:
and the wiring coming into this socket in the electrical panel:
(from left to right: gray, white, purple, brown)
and on the other side:
(from left to right: blue, red, orange, yellow)
Do you find an anomaly in the wiring between these two ends? I don't really know how to interpret the arrival of the cables on the electrical panel side...
It seems to me that the purple and brown are reversed on the RJ45 socket, but even trying to switch them doesn't work.
Thank you in advance for your feedback.
Florian

Hi,
first of all, when you open the CAD contacts, as shown in the first photo, you need to rewire them by shifting the wires by 2mm so that the cut does not happen at the same place; otherwise, you're sure to have a bad connection.
next,
The PTT 298 wiring on an RJ45 is shown here:
The wires can be swapped within a pair, as long as it's the same on both ends.
I recommend investing in a small cable tester to check all that.

and... There you go!

Indeed, I was careful when I swapped the 2 cables to re-clip them further along the cable.
I did think about the £10 cable tester, but since I only have one socket that interests me, I would like to avoid it if possible.
I can't find a wiring diagram for a telephone cable in the communication panel like in the last 2 photos, do you have any idea?
Thank you.
It's certain that a wiring tester for a plug is not worth it: we correctly rewire both ends without asking questions, that's it.
Wall socket or patch panel, it's the same.
Have you tested your other plugs to see if they are all the same? Maybe only this cable has a defect.
You can practice on one that you won't need later, possibly.
I replaced the cable with Ethernet for reliability and with an eye to the future. However, connectivity was still not present.
I continued to search and it was actually the plastic “clip” in the communication panel at the entrance that had a poor connection; changing it resolved the initial problem!
Thank you for your responses!
