Hello,
I am increasingly having trouble reading the DVDs I borrow from the media library. The player sometimes works at the beginning of the movie and then stops (without restarting despite attempts to relaunch and reboot). There are even some DVDs that it won't read at all. I once received an error message indicating that there might be an issue because it wasn't updated to read DVDs with a certain recent protection. How can I update my player (if it is indeed the player that needs updating...)?. Thank you for your help.
I should specify that the player is integrated into an Asus computer running Windows 7.
Configuration: Windows / Chrome 71.0.3578.98

Hello,
Regarding the update, you need to check your computer's website to see if there is one available. But I doubt it because your machine seems relatively old as it is apparently running Windows 7.
In principle, DVD drives work with the basic Microsoft drivers from 06/21/2006, and only brand-name drives may have specific drivers.
That's the case with the burner drive in my PC that I assembled last year, for example.
If you are starting to have difficulties watching DVDs, I would say that your device might be getting tired or nearing the end of its life... To confirm this, you should try reading those DVDs on another device.
Another thing, you should clean it with a dry cotton or microfiber cloth to remove dirt from the disc.
Moreover, since these are DVDs borrowed from other people, the DVDs may be "mistreated" and thus damaged (scratches) or simply worn out, and there’s nothing we can do about that...
First, try cleaning your drive with a cleaning disc that can be found in stores, for example. There are other methods, but I'm not a fan of them...
Otherwise, buy an external DVD drive (around €25 or less on average for the budget models, likely more expensive for brand-name drives) which should generally be newer than your computer's drive.
You might also consider replacing your computer's drive, but if it's a laptop, the procedure could be a bit tricky.
Best regards
