Solved

Hi! I have WME files protected by DRM and I can't read or convert them to MP3!!

I've tried several conversion software, many ask me for usage rights, others don't convert at all!!

I've visited many sites to find the answer, aside from burning them to CD, nothing works!!

Thanks in advance..
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0

Even some CDs that I bought and that are in WMA protected by DRM, it's impossible to make a backup copy!!!

      But we shouldn't endorse DRM
Who said that I endorse it? Did you skim through this post (see your late excuses :-))

I simply reminded what needs to be done to read them, I won’t say anything else on this site or elsewhere, the disclosure of methods to bypass DRM is punishable by law...

        Hi,

one thing to say: DRM has been cracked for quite some time now... They didn't last long, by the way. What was announced as THE protection against illegal downloading and copying has quickly fallen apart. Some clever folks have proven it was crackable... Besides, it just takes a bit of searching, and you can find on some forums how to bypass DRM, but I won't mention my sources because I don't want to advertise for pirates... As a fellow artist, I don't think it's fair to pillage a creator's work, but I also don't think it's right to blame those who download/copy illegally when you see the high prices of CDs/DVDs. I understand that some people have no other choice... A little price revaluation would be welcome when you see the billions that companies make off the backs of people, but don't be fooled—the artist doesn't get as much as one might think compared to the money that ends up in the pockets of producers and majors.

Anyway, DRM is not as effective as we are led to believe, much to my regret...

Without being a "Bill G." made in "Escrosoft," I understand those who cannot afford to buy because it's too expensive, and I understand those who complain because their work is being stolen since I am an artist myself.

I don't play Zorro, I know the law pretty well, and I enforce the editorial line of this site.

If you say you've never broken the law, you would be lying
Never said or wrote that, but maybe you haven't read what I said...

If I'm bothering you, go elsewhere and see if the grass is greener...

        Point blank.

Best wishes to all. I find that on all discussion sites there is a great lack of respect for human beings as well as a lack of humility. Computing, being just a logical succession of zeros and ones, everyone thinks they know how to read DRM-protected CDs, but in fact, no one really DOES. Recently retired and getting into the internet, I wanted to copy music like the young ones. And what had to happen, happened: I have a write-protected CD. I've tried everything, with all possible and unimaginable software, even with all the tricks (compression) etc... even sending the content by email to my wife at the cemetery and to Santa Claus, since some believe in that. And nothing works. AND, since it's in difficulty that ideas come, we created a borrowing association (mrd) since no one can forbid us from lending our CDs and burning for each other the ones we like. When we are 1000 each having bought 1000 CDs, just imagine what we can do, everything managed by a personal software design. And there you go, problem solved, no need to stress over DRM anymore!!!! Moreover, since we are intelligent (experience), we will not go to see shows of artists who sell protected music. NA
Oh! I almost forgot, we have old people who can no longer work or have been rejected from jobs, but are capable of opening wma under DRM, AND, WITHOUT noise and while remaining polite. To those who understand, greetings.

Youth is only young for a time and old age brings only setbacks

If 1000 people each buy 1000 CDs, then the majors and producers will be 1000x1000 times richer... On average, a CD costs 30 euros, so at minimum that's about 30,000,000 euros... whoa, that's a lot of cash!!! Say, are you looking for a treasurer for your little association, by any chance? I’d be happy to apply, and I also have some knowledge in accounting.

      ;)

ps: have you seen how the young people talk? They don't even know respect; it’s like they’ve never really gotten a spanking from mom and dad... But what am I saying? I'm only 29... ahhh damn Alzheimer’s, I've forgotten my age!! LOL

A little mathematical comment: 1000 people each buying a CD for 30 euros makes 30,000 euros and not 30,000,000
Sounds like my mother-in-law... always exaggerating things...

So this is what they want to use to prevent piracy? Bravo, it's going to be quite the opposite.
Good boy, I download a track that I PAY for and I can’t do anything with it, not even listen to it on my home PC (which has no internet) or on my GENIUS Creative player. It's downright theft. LONG LIVE PIRACY, in 2 minutes I got the same file for free in mp3 and I can do whatever I want with it. I’m not ready to buy another track that’s protected by DRM.
When are we going to see a baguette or a Lacoste polo protected by DRM? LOL, they are really a bunch of idiots and I’m no longer sure who the thief is in this story: the good boy who pays for nothing or the major that sells who knows what.

I completely understand that these DRM are really annoying,
I legally downloaded some tracks from FNAC, and I can only play them on my PC........yes, but for that, I go on YouTube or Deezer which themselves are totally free in the "legal" sense of course,
what I wanted was to listen to them in my car or on my MP3 and now I'm totally screwed.

      Good evening
You're absolutely right, I just paid 15 euros and some change for a movie that I can't transfer to an external hard drive to connect to my TV.
So, it's better to pirate than to pay for something that you can't use.
The Adopi law is just a load of crap, thank you gentlemen deputies for working hard to keep us honest.
So let's pirate like they do with our money.
      Later!

It's the game, those who put in the DRMs have all the rights, and you don't even have the right to make a backup copy, according to the DADVSI law...

Hi, for your music that you can't play because it's in WMA! You need to download WINAMP!
I hope I've solved your problem!
    Good luck

I find all of you fantastic. Well, of course, I have the same problem with music downloaded LEGALLY and in the end, I read your answers and they don't help me much. I have Winamp but even there, a lot of music cannot be played. So in the end, the laughing cow laughs but we still don't know why, lol. However, I want to end on a positive note; I am not tech-savvy and I am very grateful to all of you for sharing your information and tips because they have helped me out many times.

    Hello,
I can read the songs I download from Virgin with (no one talks about it) the Windows media player!!!! You need to have at least Windows Media version 9 to acquire the licenses and an active internet connection! However, I can no longer convert them to mp3! I did it once (with "No One" by Alicia Keys) but I don't remember how!!! Argh! I’m searching and when I find it, I’ll let you know!! Talk to you later!

One more thing: I've never downloaded files from Virgin, Free, Fnac, and others... If I understand correctly, you paid for the so-called license but you can't read them? Right? What messages do you have at this level? For example, when you try to play the file that you supposedly paid for the right to use personally and within the family and for non-commercial purposes, what message(s) appears?

I believe I know that there's a code to enter, you must receive it after making an online request (license), correct me if I'm wrong. Did you enter this code (license) correctly? Also, have you checked that the correct codecs were installed on your PC (player)? If not, update your codecs and look for the type of codec to install for the file you want to play. Another thing, install the famous VLC Media Player: As you know, it’s free and doesn’t require specific codecs to play your files. It plays almost all formats and furthermore, it doesn't take up much memory (light). It also allows you to watch files online and view TV, configure your subtitles... And much more. Compared to WMP, it's garbage. Moreover, VLC has just come fresh from the mind of a Frenchie. This famous tricolor player is the best in its field... By the way, GomPlayer, less well-known but just as effective (with a prettier interface and other applications that VLC doesn't have), was created by an American (I believe) to compete with VLC... Nonetheless, VLC remains the best in my opinion. So WMPlayer keeps crashing and it also consumes too much memory... Everyone knows that the world of Escrosoft... uh, I meant Microsoft is not a stable environment.

Try this to see if it works, in my opinion, I think it comes from the codecs or a faulty license, maybe not activated correctly.

    Hi
I had legally downloaded audio files from VirginMega, and I couldn't play them in Windows Media Player. In fact, what you need to do is download the updates for the player instead of redownloading WMP 9 or 10 or 11.
My files were WMA DRM. I went to:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=73c2650f-be61-4bd6-8408-1fd6e7827cd8&DisplayLang=en

Well, I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but I can play WMA DRM files in WMP 10.

A simple solution I've been using for several years
    * First, download the file
    * The first playback must be done on Windows Media Player version 10 and above
    * Check the terms of the license by right-clicking
--> if you have permission to burn the file, burn it to an Audio CD-R

---> extract the audio CD to MP3.

    There you go

Hello Julien!!! While reading your message, I may have just found the solution to my problem.
Let me explain: I bought some tracks on Amazon in mp3 format that I downloaded. For one track, I was able to use it in Pinnacle Studio 10 or Movie Maker to create my video montage with music. For the other tracks, I can't get it to work; when I import the audio track, my software freezes, and I have to do ctrl/alt/delete!! So I'm going to try to play it completely on Windows Media Player hoping that my problem comes from there.
If you have any other ideas, I would appreciate it.
      Thank you!
