HELLO,
When I open a Word file (Office 2016),
I systematically get a message stating that this file is not the usual one and it asks me to restore the Microsoft applications to default.
I have done this in the settings, but it is not enough as I still receive this message.
Indeed, before, I had an icon representing a sheet with a W at the beginning of the line. Now most of the Word files have an icon of a sheet without the W.
I don’t know what to do to resolve this small issue.
Please help me.
Thank you in advance.

Hello
Your icons are perfectly normal. They represent the content of the document and appear that way when the "Save Thumbnails" option is checked.
However, I don't quite understand your message. Can you provide it exactly?
And by the way, can you still open the documents? Are they not corrupted?

It's useless to ask me your questions privately. I won't answer them. -
Marina, hello,
Thank you for reading my question and trying to understand my problem.
I reassure you, yes I can open the files, including those that do not have the thumbnail with the w. Are they corrupted? Apparently not, I haven't noticed any anomalies except that the opening is longer (the first time).
I am just wondering: why this message every time I want to open a Word file that I copy: "<ital>Microsoft Word is not the program you usually use to view and edit documents.
Do you want to select the types of files that Word should open?</i>I answered yes, I went to settings - apps - default apps. I went further and set the default type for the files I use, doc and docs, to Word.
Am I clear enough?
Thank you for your reply.-
Oh yes, it's clearer now.
So, it's not really an error message, and your documents are not corrupted.
In the file type association settings, do you have "Word" (with the version) set for all files that have a Word extension (doc, docm, docx, dot, dotm, etc.)?
And if not, can you, more simply, right-click on a Word file, choose "Open with," and just click on "Choose another app"?
In the dialog box, select Word, then check "Always use this app to open .docx files."
Is it better now?
Also, check that you haven't accidentally set a default save option as Open Office. Open Word, then go to File tab, Options => Save.
You should have: Save files in this format => Word Document (docx)
and not, for example, OpenDocument Text.

Marina, thank you again for this information.
I understand well what you're telling me. I have
checked the options, save settings. It's all correct: it's indeed Word 2016 that is checked as the application for this type of file. I also checked in the default apps by file type, doc and so on, by default it should always be
Word 2016 that opens it, but when I save a document it's always as Word, never odt.
I even did a test that I saved. To save it; here’s how I proceed: location - desktop and the file name.
Well, I always get this message: "this is not the usual application used"
So I tried to change the format of a document to find the file type that is causing the issue, but it's the same.
I only use very few formats, and even odt files open with Word 16.
That's where I'm at. But it's not a big deal. It's curious! One day maybe I'll find out. -
Marina,
This morning, I think I found the solution
It's very simple.
The message that appeared every time a file was opened no longer had a reason to exist, since all the files opened normally with Word 2016, so it was up to me to answer no to the question: " do you want this message to continue appearing?"
So please note that my problem is resolved and I thank you.
