Hello,
I want to reset an old iMac from 2009
I pressed cmd and R at startup but it's not working
can you tell me how to do it?
I have a 2.16 GHz processor
version 10.6.8

    Hello,

    it is normal that cmd and R at startup do not work. There is no recovery partition allowing this procedure before Mac OS X 10.7

    Under Mac OS X 10.6, to "reset" a Mac, you need to boot from its original installation DVD, or from a universal 10.6 DVD. Then erase the hard drive and reinstall the system.

      I no longer have the original CD and want to get rid of this computer to Apple but I want to delete the information on it
      is there not a simple procedure possible?
      without necessarily restoring everything to factory settings but just deleting the visible files and also the hidden ones?

      Yes, there are several methods.

      The simplest one:
      - create a new administrator-type user from System Preferences, and once the Mac is started in a session of this new user, delete the current user and their complete directory.

      Optionally, also remove any unnecessary applications and other files that may not be included in the current user's directory.

      Once this is done, to prevent any future recovery, launch Disk Utility, and from Disk Utility, request to "Erase Free Space".
