Fresh Windows installation on a blank PC Solved

Question

Hello everyone,
I’m presenting my little problem. I have a computer, a Dell without a hard drive that was totally formatted (taken back by my brother at work where they don’t joke around when they refresh the hardware). I’m trying to put it back together for my mother so she has a PC for doing small things (online selling etc... nothing fancy).

I have a Windows 10 installation CD with key and everything. When I start the installation, the PC can’t find the hard drive (I put a new one). It shows up at the beginning, then in the middle of the installation it fails telling me the hard drive is not found.

Hello, It appears at the beginning > at which step do you see it? then in the middle of the installation it crashes > at which step does it crash? telling me that the hard drive is not found. > the message should be more precise, right? And which PC can also be used? Also, how to know if your disk is recognized in the BIOS? Hello everyone
here are the results:
When I see it
-> when I start the installation, I do the settings in French and then I register my Microsoft key. I then do a custom installation because the computer is empty and I cannot do updates. I get this image

-> I select the second 1TB disk and I start

When that crashes:
-> it crashes at "preparing files for installation".

When I try to relaunch the installation, I can't find any hard drive... as image

Regarding the hard drive, I have no idea. My brother brought it back to me in bubble wrap brand new... I took the photo

OK so we can say that your hard drive is properly formatted, otherwise you would have had a warning right after the partition choice.

Since it crashes later we can doubt your Windows CD.
Either with the CD drive, or a driver for storage.

So we’ll go with the simplest.

You will create a Windows 10 installation USB drive.
Download this tool (on any other PC)

Run it and follow the prompts.
Choose the Windows version that matches your license key.
If during the choice it is "grayed out", then uncheck the line below, because by default the program picks the version that matches the PC you’re using to create it.
(so, by default, not necessarily the right one for the PC to repair)

Once the USB is created
Plug it into the PC where you want to install it.
Then only start your PC.
It should boot straight into the installation.

See if it works.

Otherwise indicate where it blocks and the error message if any.

Note:
Is your Windows 10 and key only for this PC?
( isn’t it a recovery from another PC? )

I might have an explanation... I think there is no graphics card... the black slot (I’m not mistaken I think) is empty...
to test I tried to put the old hard drive with Vista and it doesn’t boot... the computer shuts down and restarts once the Vista loading bar starts

Ok so you don’t have a graphics card in this PC.

You only have the integrated graphics chipset (on the motherboard)

Whether a graphics card or chipset, what was offered for this model seems very light for Windows 10 (or not good)

You’re talking about a hard drive with Vista.
Is that the original hard drive ???
I thought it wasn’t included ?

While your PC is open, check if you have a capacitor with a bulged top ???
Touch it and if you feel it’s bulged it’s not good at all.
Tell me what it is.

After if we go by this image :

Windows 10 asks to install a driver that handles storage (it’s not aware of this hardware)

For your PC I find nothing on the Dell site, it stops at Vista.

On link 3 (driverscape which I don’t usually use) we see that at the bottom they provide a Hard Disk Controller Drivers for Windows 10 (I doubt it but okay ...)
Or other driver on another site if you find one.
(me nothing reliable for now)

So you would need to download it, copy it to a drive.
And when you are on the same page as the image, follow the instructions by clicking Load a driver.
Install the driver then retry the installation.

I don’t know exactly how to install the driver, so follow along, you’ll probably need to unzip the folder before putting it on a drive.
But I don’t see an executable, so you’ll see if the installer finds its happiness or not.
Try every possible method.

First of all, thank you for your time. I managed to install everything this summer with some free time. Sorry for the lack of news.

Windows 10 wasn't suitable, I switched to 7. The new hard drive was also failing, so I ended up keeping an old 256 GB drive which will be more than enough for my parents. Everything went smoothly.
