Hello,
I have been facing the same email sending issue with Outlook (Express or Microsoft Outlook) using SMTP protocol over a WIFI connection to a Livebox and an ADSL connection to the mail server for several months.
My initial email sending failures occurred with laposte.net; then I tried an OVH mail server using the same Internet connection and Livebox, and I encountered the same error messages "socket error 1053" and error number: 0x800ccc0f.
Afterwards, I tried sending to these two SMTP accounts via a direct RTC connection through the Free access point, and the SMTP sending worked correctly.
I also tried via a WIFI connection with neuftelecom, and the SMTP sending worked.
I tried again using another Livebox in a different geographical location, and the SMTP sending still did not work.
Finally, I configured an ORANGE.fr SMTP account, and sending my emails via SMTP is possible.
I contacted Orange by email, but they did not respond.
I had a technician come because the TV connection was not working properly, and I thought there might be a cause-and-effect relationship between the loss of bandwidth and the inability to send via SMTP (for example, a reception window that is too short compared to the sending duration). He replied that the Livebox handles the SMTP protocol and that Orange is not responsible for exchange issues.
But how can it be explained that my SMTP works with Neuftelecom and over RTC without any configuration changes? Logically, the problem should originate from the Livebox or the Orange Internet access point that ensures the SMTP connection with other messaging operators.
Have you ever encountered this kind of problem?
If so, how can this bug be fixed? Are there specific settings, or modules to download?
If so, I suggest that everyone who has encountered this problem report it to Orange so that this defect can be corrected.
Thank you for your response.

Good evening everyone,
Sending emails is actually simple, but it can be a headache when you're looking for it, I know that for a fact.
Here’s the procedure:
For an @laposte account, for example:
Username and password = those provided by Laposte.
Incoming server: Laposte's server,
Outgoing SMTP server: smtp.orange.fr but keeping the default communication ports 25 and 110.
Also, do not check "my server requires authentication" nor use a username and password for sending messages.
It will work.

Hello,
Even if I'm late to the party, I want to share my solution for sending emails with an SMTP other than Orange's from a Livebox. Now I use Thunderbird for my Orange email and its SMTP, and an address using my own SMTP (OVH). Here's the recipe:
1) Connect to the Livebox: http://192.168.1.1
2) Log in (by default, use admin for both password and username)
3) Click on "Advanced Configuration"
4) Click under the title "Firewall" on security policy
5) Choose, if it’s not already set, "maximum security" and apply
6) Go to Basic Filtering
7) In the table, find the line SMTP - TCP All -> 25
8) Click "Edit" on the icon in the last column (be careful not to delete!)
9) Click "Edit" again in the action column on the SMTP line (also be careful not to delete!)
10) Change 25 to 587 or the port you wish to use
11) Confirm twice (this screen, then the previous one)
12) Make sure you have set port 587 in your Orange SMTP configurations and others in your email client
And there you go, it works!

Hello everyone,
The same issue with Livebox has been simply bypassed by using port 587 instead of 25 for outgoing mail (smtp)
There you go...

Try this:
port 587 with authentication, to smtp-msa.orange.fr instead of smtp.orange.fr
if that doesn't work try smtp.orange.fr
if that still doesn't work try smtp.wanadoo.fr
if that still doesn't work SMTP: 193.252.22.73
if that still doesn't work SMTP: 193.252.22.72
if that still doesn't work smtp.premium.orange.fr
otherwise 192.168.1.1 username and password admin/admin and check that port 25 is not blocked.
after that, bingo at the hotline.
afterwards I find them too annoying at France Telecom.

Thank you for your help,
I tried all your suggestions, none worked: indeed, for the password to access the mailbox, I must keep the one from laposte.net, so I don't get past the threshold "smtp.orange.fr." or the other solutions (I still tried the password for my wanadoo address, but without success

Hello
The Livebox is blocking port 25 to SMTP servers other than Orange.
I have the same issue with the Livebox, but none if I use my old ADSL Wanadoo Extense modem.
Here are some links to understand the problem and solutions to resolve it, or rather to work around it.
However, I still haven't found anything to reconfigure the Livebox.

I tried port 587 instead of 25: no result, still blocking SMTP to laposte.net
Is SSL encryption required? (checkbox)
Are there other ports possible?
Thank you for your response.

I did everything you recommended, but when I try to send, it asks for my password. I enter the one for my laposte account, and it doesn't work!!! I changed the port from 25 to 587, I've tried with smtp-msa.orange.fr and smtp.orange.fr... the result is always negative... Can you help me out? Thank you in advance.
Hello everyone
So what is this mentality of preventing internet users from freely using their internet access?
With the arrival of the internet on Earth, a breeze of freedom blew over humans who could thus communicate quickly and easily with each other. But unfortunately, other bureaucratic and petty humans have limited these freedoms, which are nevertheless legitimate, by putting stupid barriers on their boxes. What a shame, we can clearly see the petty spirit of France Telecom...
So there are several solutions:
- The first is to change the outgoing server (smtp) to smtp.orange.fr. Easy, unless you have 20 accounts to modify every day in case you are a nomad with a laptop or if you want to legitimately use your company's smtp servers or your own. As a result, everything goes through Orange which (sometimes) steals your emails, one wonders why... I had the case with identification emails that I never received for false pretenses.
- The second is to use certain tricks, like port 587 which doesn’t always work and there again, you have to modify all your account settings... pfff.
- The third one, which I experimented with tonight and allows you to modify all configurations at once, is to change the file "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts" by adding the following line:
80.12.242.10 smtp.de.mes.configs
for example
80.12.242.10 smtp.sfr.fr
On Windows 7, the hosts file is protected, you need to make a copy, for example on the desktop, modify it and then overwrite it. You can create two versions in two folders (or a script) that overwrite with or without the patch that transforms your original smtp to the IP address of that of Orange.
- The fourth, certainly the best and the most economical in terms of time and money, is to no longer use Orange and to migrate to another internet service provider, like SFR or Free, who don’t stupidly block your SMTP servers.
So unless someone has the solution that allows the box to let connections through port 25 to other SMTP servers than Orange’s, the fourth option will be my solution and the one I will recommend to everyone.

Hello,
I also have the same issue at my parents' place. (My usual provider is Bluewin.ch which offers authenticated SMTP to send emails from any other provider. Indeed, it works with all providers (including from Switzerland or Canada) except with Orange.
I deduce that Orange blocks SMTP traffic when it's not directed to their own SMTP servers.
A great example of a responsibility umbrella!

Since my first message, after numerous requests to Orange and La poste.net, I have obtained some information.
Indeed, Orange and others (I believe Free operates in the same way now, but I need to verify it; I don't have a Freebox).
The Livebox filters SMTP traffic and systematically routes it to Orange's servers.
This is clearly indicated in the help section of laposte.net.
Orange has never officially written this to me; I found out through contacts during interventions with technicians.
Nevertheless, it might be possible to configure the Livebox so that it does not take this routing into account; I haven't verified this, as I haven't taken the time or the risk of messing everything up and ending up without email again.
I am open to any information and instructions on how to configure the Livebox.
Thank you to anyone who can provide this.
See you soon on the forum.

Hello,
if there is a firewall installed on the PC, disable it and then test again. If it still doesn't work, perform the following steps:
in Outlook Express: Tools/Accounts, select the account then Properties, increase the server timeout by moving it to the right.

Hello
I solved this kind of issue on a Livebox Pro by accessing the administration page via the address 192.168.1.1. You need to open the port used by SMTP, 465.

Everything doesn't seem very clear to me, but the rule is always the same:
You can send a message that passes through an SMTP server only if it belongs to the Internet service provider that allowed you to connect to the Internet, for example:
- if you access the net via a direct RTC link through the Free access point, you will only be able to send via smtp.free.fr
But not on orange.smtp.fr or any other xxx.smtp.fr
In the end, you say:
"I finally set up an SMTP ORANGE.fr account, sending my emails via SMTP is possible."
So email sending works for you via your Livebox?

Hello,
I wanted to know if you have resolved your email sending issue with LiveBox.
I have the same problem, and all my messages are stuck in the outbox.
Thank you for replying.

Hello
Here’s a small summary:
Whatever your ISP and thus your ...BOX, you need to configure port 587 as the port for an email account on a server different from your ISP's SMTP
for Outlook Express proceed as follows:
"Tools" "Accounts" select the account "Properties" tab "Advanced" box "Outgoing mail" replace the default port
usually 25 with port "587" (it's not obvious that this is a port)
Make sure to check your email address and password.
You should no longer have problems with your outgoing mail.
I don't think it's necessary to tweak your Firewall.
In any case, this would take place at the level of your ...BOX and that becomes too dangerous, and the Hotlines from our dear ISPs won't be able to help you!!!!!

Hello
I'm having the same problem in one of my work locations with an Orange box.
I work on a laptop from several locations, I have several laposte.net (and gmail) addresses imported into Outlook, I don't use webmail.
But the solution of changing the SMTP address to use Orange is really cumbersome (I work in the evening from a FREE box, some days from a fixed IP from a NEUF box, and other days from a LIVEBOX pro)
I don’t want to spend my time changing the Outlook settings for my laposte.net addresses (I have several accounts)
I've tried changing the port to 2525 or 587, but apparently, if you don’t use Orange's SMTP, it doesn't work.
Is there a solution for itinerant profiles like mine?

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
using a livebox, to send emails I use a sender address X@toto.com to connect to
Orange's smtp server.
If this is indeed the problem you solved, can you please confirm this? I'm trying to help a business, I'm counting on you. Reply to my email: ncasajus64@yahoo.fr
Is there a need for any modifications in the connection? Why is it so slow and are there any solutions???
Thank you for taking the time to reply to me.
