Hello
When opening Word on Windows 10, I'm getting the following message
unable to create the work file. Check the TEMP environment variable
Moreover, I'm unable to save changes to my Word files anymore.

I almost lost my sanity trying to solve my problems until I realized that I had installed, with Office 365, a 32-bit version of the Office suite (which installs by default), while I have a 64-bit computer.
I had to choose the correct version by following a small link marked "advanced options." It's pretty fundamental! Anyway...
I uninstalled the wrong version, then reinstalled the right version... Since then, I've regained my zest for life. ;-) The preview pane works; the system can open the Normal.dotm file and I no longer see the error message "Unable to create the work file. Check the TEMP environment variable."

Thank youuuuuuuu a thousand times again.
nothing to do with it. I have Office 365 32-bit (because it uses macros and 32-bit add-ins, so it's impossible to switch to 64-bit, as I've experienced that these macros and add-ins don't work in 64-bit) on Windows 11 (64-bit required), and I have no issues.
In the File menu > Account > About Word, I can read:
"Microsoft® Word for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2209 Build 16.0.15629.20196) 32 bits"
