Check the TEMP environment variable

Solved

Hello,
I also have the problem of this message every time I want to open Word 2007 version "Office Home and Student 2007"
Using Windows XP SP2, with regular updates...

When I click on a .doc file to open it:
1- the yellow Office Word 2007 window opens, and then a window tells me: "unable to create the work file. Check the TEMP environment variable" I click OK
2- The Word frame installs on the screen, then again the same window, with the same message about the TEMP folder.
Again I click OK and at that moment my requested file is displayed!
3- No problems for saving after modifying the file.

How can I get rid of these unnecessary messages?
And which TEMP folder are we talking about? There are several layers!!!
C:\ Temp
C:\WINDOWS\Temp
C:\ Documents and settings\<<users>>\Local setting\Temp
and all the Applications!
I emptied these folders, I cleaned with CCleaner, I deleted and then recreated these folders, testing the result for each operation...
still my message!
I miss the good old Word 97 that I used before!
What does Microsoft say about this??? I haven't found anything.
I look forward to reading your informed advice (and detailed instructions on the procedure to follow)
Configuration: Windows XP SP2 Internet Explorer 6.0 Office Home and Student 2007

I have the same problem; after examining the registry, I found the registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
cache:
F:\WD Sync Data\J Louis\Temp\SB\Temporary Internet Files

I replaced the cache with c:\windows\temp
and it works
It seems that during the installation of the software with the external Western Digital disk on F/, several registry keys are modified referencing this removable drive. I cleaned this key, but I fear that other entries may be in the same state, and I don't know how to proceed without taking risky actions.
If anyone has the same experience, please help me.

The original value of the subkey "cache" found on another machine is

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files

I restored it and it still works..
Thanks again

I had the same issue. By cross-referencing the comments of others and my own experience, I believe it comes from the Western Digital applications that modify the registry by redirecting to the media that was used as the download source for the software.
