Hello everyone,
I switched from Mac (iMovie) to PC. I have been the happy owner of Pinnacle Studio Ultimate for a few weeks now. However, I still haven't managed to start my first movie.

Between the videos on the site in typical Uncle Sam English and the 536 pages of the Pinnacle user guide, I must admit it’s quite tedious, and I'm losing patience, wondering if I made the right choice.

Is there a site like "Video for Dummies," or at least something simpler than Pinnacle to get started?

Thank you for your suggestions.

Best regards.

Hello, I’m copying you the studio tutorial of the English penguin who speaks French
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2C06644CFF4DEC38
there are many cool guys' tutorials on YouTube, go check it out, you can display the tutorial and your project alternately on your screen and proceed step by step. I especially recommend that you properly set up your "watched folders" for my music, my photos, video captures in "settings" and give them the correct path on the hard drive

Hello,

Sincere thanks for the speed and quality of your response. It's exactly what I was looking for. The videos are for Pinnacle 15 while I have the 20. That shouldn't have a big influence on the support. It will mainly be for the new features. But given my age, I can no longer hope to compete with Roman Polanski.

I must admit, however, that I don't fully understand your warning regarding the installation of "watched folders" in "settings".

My new machine has 2 internal drives. I've made sure that all programs, both basic and new, are loaded onto the 256 GB SSD and all folders on a conventional 1TB hard drive. Everything that is music, photos, and videos is also on the 1TB hard drive.

Should I also get "PC for Dummies"???

Thanks again and best regards.

Hello, age doesn't matter; we have patience, plus I'm 41!!! I advise you to import your camera clips onto your SSD and put your 'project' on the SSD, and of course, keep the rest of my documents, photos, and music on your large hard drive. Go to "configure" at the top left of the control panel
"watched folders" and create a capture folder, a music folder, and a photos folder. Here's an example
"Watched Folders," "add a folder"
D:users/Bernard/my music/film music
If your music is in my documents, modify it accordingly: my documents/my music/editing music
D:users/Bernard/my photos/Photos 2017
C:users/bernard/capture pinnacle
apply ok
And for the storage location, I believe it is already set by default
you put it in C:users/bernard/pinnacle/projects studio
document/pinnacle/my titles etc.
For renderings, the path is
C:users/bernard/AppData/studioScratch/render
(Bernard is my first name, so put your own path
That said, you can ignore the watched folders and import files independently using the bin at the top left, where you can put music, photos, and clips that you will use for your project by naming each bin and clicking the button to the right of the bin to import the files needed for your editing. It’s new; I'm just starting to use it
Get to work
Ps in the question mark 'help' at the top left, you have the user manual
and topics like: http://help.pinnaclesys.com/pinnacle/v19/main/fr/user-guide/pinnaclestudio.pdf

Hello,
Great, I will meticulously reorganize my drives following your advice. I had slightly changed the locations thinking I was protecting my PC from any malice.
The seller at the store made it clear that I needed to work with the SSD (which is the C: for speed reasons) and back up on the D:

I was just a bit surprised when I saw "D:users/Bernard/my music/movie music"!!!!. ???? How did he manage to read my hard drive, the idiot???? Before realizing that we had the same first name. As for age, I'm the kid, I'm 46.

I have already downloaded the user guide.pdf. It's on the D:

Currently, I'm struggling to read the piece of film imported in .m4v to start a first project with titles and music. "Organize" tells me that I cannot import this file, and the "event log" confirms that "._large.m4v" seems to be a size or type not supported.

The film can be seen on the right side of the screen, in "source," but it's not listed in the "bin."

I just need a bit more patience left :-))

Best regards

Thank you for the feedback
just one thing, your .m4v file comes from Apple and/or iTunes and it is possible that it is protected by DRM (copyright)

Hello,

I can't answer your question. These are videos filmed with a Sony camera on small reels (like mini VHS), then loaded onto my MAC and then imported to my PC.

Note that I have the same playback problem with the demo film "The sky is the limit" that comes with Pinnacle 20.

The current situation is as follows

I had to reboot my PC before I could try/understand Pinnacle 20.

It's an HP Pavilion Notebook. Intel Core i7, 16 GB of RAM, x64 Processor, 1 SSD of 256 and a hard drive of 1T. 2 graphics cards; 1x (Intel (R) HD graphics 630), 1x the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050.

All programs work on the PC & Office level.

I reloaded Pinnacle using the DVD and the Internet. It seems necessary to avoid downloading via the Internet as there may be issues, but without an Internet connection, the DVD won't load. !!!

Initially, when playing the demo film from Pinnacle "The sky is the limit," the source screen remained gray even though the sound was audible.
According to a post on the CCM forum, "directX" needs to be loaded. I have done that.

One step forward, I have both picture and sound. However, the picture freezes after 1 second, while the sound continues. After a stop/start, the picture syncs for 1 second with the sound.

2nd forum advice: disable a graphics card.
I tried to disable the 2nd card (Intel (R) HD graphics 630) but to no avail. The other card is the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050.

3rd forum advice: There may be compatibility issues with certain graphics cards !!!. At this point, I'm out of my depth.

Latest update: With the film "The sky is the limit"

Under "Organize": I can play the entire video non-stop. However, if I stop playback and start again, the image freezes after a fraction of a second while the sound continues.

Under "Edit": I can play and stop at will in the "Source" folder. There is nothing in the "Timeline" folder

Under "Edit": "Timeline": If I put a video there, I can play and stop at will.

Under "Author": The image freezes after a fraction of a second while the sound continues.

When I import a video, a window appears and tells me, "Organize. Unable to import the file. Check the event log in the control panel for more details." A "reject" button is available. If I reject it, I end up with the same situation as the 5 points above.

I haven't yet found the "event log in the control panel" !! What is it and where??

Does this seem normal to you

I don't know if I should be disappointed for investing in Pinnacle. I've heard a lot of positive feedback, but it seems terribly complicated for setup.

Thank you for your patience

Best regards
