How to remove highlighting in Word? Solved

Hello,
I have a little problem: I take my classes on Word document and I'm used to highlighting some details to review, which I "un-highlight" afterwards. But I can't remove the highlighting... Saving as .docx or .odt doesn't change the problem. I can change the color, but I can't get rid of it, except by clicking on "clear all formatting," which changes the font and any other modifications at the same time. Yet, in the help provided directly by Word, it says that highlighting can be removed by clicking on "No Color," which doesn't work in my documents.

Can anyone help me?

Hello luxbanne,

The highlighting done in OpenOffice or LibreOffice, even in its latest version, is not compatible with that of Word. In the latter, it is converted into background color (fill).

You have at least 2 options to get around this:
1. Either you consistently save in .docx format (from LibreOffice) and in that case, you will be able to highlight and remove highlighting in the same way in both LibreOffice and Word.

2. Or, if you want to keep your .odt format, then in Word, you select "No Color" in the "Shading" tool (the paint bucket found in the [Home] tab).

The 1st option seems more straightforward to me, but it's up to you to decide if you're more comfortable with Word than with LibreOffice.
