Hello,
I am new to your forum.
I am facing the same problem as Money users regarding USB stick backup: how can we change the storage capacity in Money 2004, which is very likely limited to a very low level, and ensure that the backup can be made on high-capacity USB sticks (e.g. 16GB)?
Thank you all for your relevant responses.

Hello Jmarion3,
Thank you for your response, but what you describe is perfectly known and applied on my end. The problem is quite different, and I will try to clarify it: when we want to back up to a new USB key (2, 4, or 16 GB), which I specify is blank and formatted in FAT32 or NTFS, a file from Money 2004 larger than 4 KB, the Money software declares that the (disk) key is full and requests the insertion of a new (disk) key. At this point, it's important to remember that when the software was designed, USB keys did not exist or were not accounted for by Money, and therefore backups were made on floppy disks, which had a maximum capacity of 1.5 KB (if I recall correctly!). However, I believe there must be somewhere in the Money program a setting where the maximum backup capacity is stored, and this is precisely the setting I would like to modify so that Money finally accepts backups on USB keys of 4 or 16 GB. Furthermore, I would like to point out a trick that allows direct backups from Money: I have ensured that the available space on the USB key is less than 50% of the total space; under these conditions, Money accepts saving my current file, which is 5757 KB. This operation is impossible if the key is empty before the save!
Thank you all for your collaboration.
Best regards.

Thank you Jmarion3,
I will carefully read the information from the link you sent me; if I find a solution to the problem, I will gladly share it.

Hello;
You need to change the backup path by launching MsMoney >> Tools tab >> Settings >> Backup Options and configure it according to the screenshot below >> Image-1 (My USB drive is designated as drive H:\)
Then, every time you close MsMoney, there will be an option to back up or not to the destination drive >> See the image below >> Image-2
As for me, I have been backing up on a CD/RW for years and have had no problems because the last backup overwrites the previous one and, in my opinion, that is more than sufficient for an average user
I just did a test on a USB drive containing other files and I received a small error message that I ignore 'in order not to uninstall the other files and no problem the backup is present and you can relaunch MsMoney directly from this external backup
See you later for the result

Thank you for kindly letting us know if your problem is resolved by activating this function in the designated space
Best regards and see you later

I'm sorry, but I must have misunderstood the question, and I don't have an answer to the one mentioned in your last message.
The backup files should be located in the hidden files of Windows (C:\Program Files\Microsoft MsMoney), and I don't think we can increase the reserved space for these files (??)
If you're interested, I can send you a link to a MsMoney FAQ to check below.
