PowerPoint file won't open on my Mac with my account.

Hello,

I have a MacBook Pro with OS Yosemite 10.10.5, since late 2015.
I bought the Office pack for Mac.
For the past few days, I haven't been able to open certain PowerPoint files, the following message appears:
"Microsoft PowerPoint has unexpectedly quit"

I realized that with my guest session, the file opens normally.
Additionally, I installed the latest Office updates this morning.

Does anyone have a miracle solution?

    Hello,

    While we wait for our M$ Office specialist, Master Aliboron Martin, to come by, try, from your user account, with Ppt closed / Library / Preferences, and move the file "com.microsoft.powerpoint.plist" to the trash.
    Check that you have, in the same preferences folder, a subfolder Microsoft, in which you will find the same preference file that needs to be deleted.
    No need to worry, the preference files will be recreated the next time the application starts; only a few possible settings will be lost and need to be recreated.

      Hello again and a big thank you for your responsiveness!
      Unfortunately, the only file I found in "com.microsoft..." in the Library Preferences folder is the following: "com.microsoft.office.licensingV2"... which I haven't touched.
      And in the Preferences folder, I can't find a "Microsoft" subfolder.

      I have another Library folder in the "System" directory but without a Preferences subfolder.

      I suppose we have to wait for Master Aliboron Martin's visit ;-)

        Are you sure you went to the right library?
        To access your user library, it's from the Finder/Go menu, by holding down the option (alt) key, which will make it appear in the drop-down menu.

      Thank you, indeed I wasn't in the right Library... and I don't know how I would have found it...
      So I actually found the infamous file and I deleted it permanently... but it's still not working.
      However, I didn't find the Microsoft subfolder in Preferences or in Library...

    Regarding Office 2016, things have become a bit more complex, given the current Apple specifications. In addition to the preference files we are used to, there are also some in ~/Library/Containers.

    And more specifically in this case, we are thinking of the file com.microsoft.Powerpoint.plist which is located in ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Powerpoint/Data/Library/Preferences (yes, it has become complicated). So it needs to be tested. As a precaution, rather than deleting it directly, the same result can be achieved simply by renaming the file (for example to com.microsoft.Powerpoint.plist-ex). This way, we can easily revert if necessary.

    Let’s also remind, just in case, that deleting preferences should be done after quitting the relevant application and that, in the latest versions of Mac OS X, it is sometimes necessary to restart the Mac for these changes to take effect...

      Not knowing Office 2016 and with my curiosity in that area being non-existent, I wouldn't have known/couldn't have given good advice!!
      Why keep it simple when you can make it complicated?!!!

      I've done what you advised, namely renamed the file com.microsoft.Powerpoint.plist-ex...
      Then I restarted my computer... and unfortunately got the same ppt message again: "Microsoft PowerPoint has quit unexpectedly."

      I just went back and a new file appeared, which I renamed to "ex2."
      Additionally, for your information, I also see the following file: com.microsoft.Powerpoint.plist.rOclcgR
      and this one:
      com.microsoft.Powerpoint.LSSharedFileList.plist

      I do not know if this is normal?

      Oh, certainly normal. But the difficulty lies in finding which file(s) is (are) at fault (since it's probably not that one). And since the file structures in Mac OS X have become very complex, searching isn't simple, that's for sure... To give you an idea of the files that may be affected in your user account, you can refer to the lists indicated in the Office 2016 uninstallation procedure.

      But as always, caution with operations whose consequences we do not master. Backups, backups, backups beforehand! Checks, verifications,...

      Ah, we can say it, Apple's specifications for everything that needs to be approved for the App Store have become very complex. Just the files that are in "Group Containers" with their obscure (imposed) numbering, essential for applications that want to share (a little) elements, it's something to dream about... :-)

      We hope that at least, in return, it's a guarantee of stability and security (?)

      at the end of the weekend, I tried once more to fix the problem by neutralizing each file in "com.microsoft.Powerpoint" one by one... and nothing, the file won’t open and the same message "Microsoft PowerPoint has unexpectedly quit."
