Hello everyone,

My Windows folder is huge. I've already used the PC's cleaning tools, then downloaded Wise Disk Cleaner which I've run, but nothing works.
The size of the Windows file is over 40GB!!

What’s strange is that it’s impossible to locate where these data are hidden in the Windows folder. By using the properties function, I sometimes felt that they were in a file starting with the letter P, but it seems to shift from one file to another. Indeed, as soon as I find it, if I check a second time, the file returns to a normal size and the next file seems to be huge... then nothing, all the P files go back to normal.
The other files, on the other hand, have normal sizes. (system32: 3.93, syswow64: 1.20, winsxs: 5.56)...
I have an antivirus (ESET NOD32) from the start that detects nothing.

    Hello.

    I don't see how this is bothersome. Try defragmenting your hard drive. But Windows always takes up a lot of space.

      As mentioned, I have used all possible tools from Windows and this little software (very useful) Wise Disk Cleaner… but nothing works.

      I also believe that it is not normal for data to move from one folder to another. It was supposedly in the TAPI file this time… but as every time, when opening it we find nothing, then by checking the size of the folder again… oops, it goes back to normal.

      Let’s say that with a 120 GB internal HD… it’s extremely annoying.

      I understand.

      It is indeed problematic. I personally advise you to reinstall your Windows if it bothers you. Otherwise, contact Microsoft Answer Desk.

      I was afraid of this answer.... If I do that, I'll have to reinstall the software and everything... not to mention that I'll have to find the installation discs... :'(

      Thank you very much, I was just trying that, as I just read about it on another forum.

      So... the files are hidden in windows/installer (23.6 GB) and they are mostly .msp or .msi files.
      Has another user deleted them all without issues? Do you know anything about that?
      Without using that little magic software, I can't actually see that folder. How can I access it??


      The other anomaly, or at least it seems to me, is that there is a folder "program files" of 4.1 GB and a folder "program files x86" of 2.3 GB... is that normal?? Isn't the second one the old files from the previous version of the programs for the earlier windows?

      Meanwhile, I found out how to display the directory Windows/installer...
      Now, I need to know if it's possible to delete the .msp and .msi files without any issues

    This is not an anomaly.
    32-bit programs are installed in "Program Files (X86)", 64-bit programs in "Program Files".
    You should not touch them.

    As for the Windows\installer folder, it is advisable not to touch it...

      I was able to free up a bit of space anyway, but the real limit is simply the capacity of the HD. It was very hard to imagine that one day Windows & Co would take up so much space!
