Hello everyone,
I just acquired an Archos 504.
I plugged it into my computer to charge it, normally for 2 hours.
But the light supposed to blink at the end of charging is still not blinking, and it has been charging for over 6 hours!

Often during the first charge of most electronic devices (laptop, mobile phone, Archos...), it should take longer (usually around 8 to 12 hours most of the time). After subsequent charges, you will only need to charge for 2 hours as indicated. Normally, the manual should state how long to charge during the first charge...

Don't worry, if the Archos turns off while charging: turn it back on while plugged in until it stays on.
The power delivered via USB by a PC is less than 220 volts since the computer takes its share of energy from the current. Therefore, using a wall outlet is recommended.
At the same time, this forum must be very old since there are no more Archos 504s on the market. You are unlikely to buy it, and I wonder why I am writing this.

can someone tell me the standard charging time (not the first one, but the following ones) with the USB of this MP3 player? I'm hesitating to buy it and since I don't want to spend more money on getting the wall charger, I wanted to know.

I have a big problem, I charged the Archos 504 for 2 hours without checking that the green light was blinking, it worked well for two days but now, the indicator shows a full charge and it shuts down after a minute :s!

Me too, on two occasions the indicator light showed "fully charged" and then the Archos turned off right after. I think I've found the solution for my case; the USB port on my laptop is a bit damaged from repeatedly unplugging and re-plugging the USB connector, so the connection is poor (maybe the Archos interrupts it?). The charging (which was already slow to begin with) is now: endless...
For your information, as soon as you disconnect the Archos, it automatically indicates that it's fully charged. However, when powered on, it detects and shows the actual charge of the device.
The power adapter seems, unfortunately, to be the only lasting solution. (PLUG + DVR + ADAPTER NOT INCLUDED, the Archos ends up costing very, very, very much.... :(

Hello! I see that most people have the same problem as me.
1: When I connect my Archos 504 via USB to the computer to charge, even after a day it still shows only 2 bars in the battery status!!! Why is that? It really annoys me in the end.
2: Plus, I accidentally reformatted my Archos and lost all the files that came with the device... how can I recover them?

how to repair an Archos 504 with recovery code 2 written on it.
It fell and I can't get it to show up on the PC. When I try the 3 options: no, repair or format disk: OK, it crashes quickly showing checking total partition. The different solutions available online didn't help at all - thank you for responding, I think the disk is dead.
