Good evening,

I allow myself to repost my question already asked on September 30, 2015 and left unanswered. Here ->
http://www.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-32348158-processeur-incompatible-pour-installer-windows-10#top

Good evening everyone,

Following the attempt to migrate to Windows 10 according to your tutorial and having performed the following steps:
- deleted temporary files and cleaned my registry with CCleaner,
- created a backup of Windows 7
- scanned my computer with an antivirus: Kaspersky
- checked the integrity of my hard drive and system files with the chkdsk command
- defragmented my hard drive
- backed up the system image to an external medium: 24h!
- downloaded the ISO
- created a USB installation key with Microsoft’s tool, Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool
- executed the setup.exe

Result error message:
This PC can't run Windows 10
You can't install Windows 10 because your processor doesn't support NX

After researching on Google (my friend sometimes) I stumbled upon your article which gives me hope. In the link provided by Bruce Willix here

http://www.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-26118455-installation-windows-8-impossible#top

Big Monstro offers a tool to determine if the processor supports NX bit or not (noted as Hardware DEP):

http://www.grc.com/securable.htm

except that I don't know how to use it :-(

By right-clicking on Computer then Properties, my processor is called: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU M 540 @ 2.53 GHZ whose spec can be found here

http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_i5/Intel-Core%20i5%20Mobile%20I5-540M%20CP80617004116AD%20%28BX80617I5540M%29.html

In features it is indeed written NX / XD / Execute disable bit?
and in Major features: NX bit/XD-bit Advanced programmable interrupt controller

It seems that the NX bit might be dormant? Unfortunately, I do not know how to read the processor description and still do not know if I can upgrade to Windows.

Could you please help me? I would really like both of my PCs to have the same system... Thank you in advance if you can help me

EDIT: my machine: HP Mobile Workstation EliteBook8740w

Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 40.0

Hello, Gitto, I don't think your response is very helpful regarding this topic (you're entitled to your opinion). Personally, I have Windows 10 on all three PCs at home, and none of them have any issues. If you or others have problems, I don't think that's a reason to respond the way you do.

BellesFesses, if you have an i5 processor, I don't see the problem since it's not what can block it, but I think it might not be enabled in the BIOS. Have you checked?

Yes, I make spelling mistakes, but I don't hide them by writing in text mode...

Good evening jacklove and gitto, I saw your response gitto, but before I had the chance to reply, the message seems to have disappeared? I couldn't have responded better than jacklove himself.

Thank you very much for your response jacklove, it seems solvable!

If I understand correctly in the other topic on the same subject here:
"https://forums.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-32348158-processeur-incompatible-pour-installer-windows-10#top" you point out the problem!

The answer is probably given in the processor specification found here:
"http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_i5/Intel-Core%20i5%20Mobile%20I5-540M%20CP80617004116AD%20%28BX80617I5540M%29.html" except that I don't understand what is written.

I don't feel comfortable going into the BIOS without a guide to prevent any disasters. However, I have already followed a tutorial found on CCM to back everything up properly before migrating (described at the beginning of this topic).

Could you give me a step-by-step procedure to find this information please? And possibly later how to unlock it?

It would be really great if I could manage to do this ... :-)

      Hello,

Discussions should take place on the forum and you should know this since you accepted (and read?) the charter.
Why? It's a computer help forum: do you think help in private messages can benefit others? That's the purpose of a forum.
This isn't the first time you've done this. I'd like it to be the last.

Thank you for taking this into account.

noctambule28, I read the charter and I accepted it.
Now I do it this way because at certain moments it's much easier to have the image in front of me, especially when the person you are helping is struggling with certain functions.
Moreover, when I go through Skype and I manage to resolve the issue, I come back to comment on the post with the solution.
Now I make more than 50 interventions per day on the forum, but if my way of acting is not liked, you just have to forbid me access to the forum.
I don't think I disturb anyone except you.

    Here you go,

To respond to the aside initiated by noctambule28. We tried various BIOS configurations via Skype and TeamViewer. Intervention impossible to carry out via a forum. Since we couldn't find a solution, jacklove directed me to HP (the manufacturer of my machine). Here is the question I asked on their site:

Update Windows 10: error message: You cannot install Windows 10 because your processor does not support NX! However, depending on the processor, it seems that the NX bit might be in sleep mode? I can’t find a way to enable it in the BIOS. Can you help me please?

I then had to call support, who assured me that my machine would not support Windows 10 to my great disappointment. Driver and non-compliant manufacturing issues.
I will receive their explanations by email. Once received, I will share them with you. In conclusion, the topic will remain unresolved!

For my part, I think that even if HP's response is negative, you should set your post to resolved because you will have the answer to your question.

Here is HP's response in the form of a link ...

    https://www8.hp.com/fr/fr/ad/windows_10/not_tested.html?jumpid=cp_r163_fr/fr/pc_cons/win10/update/Findmyproduct

And if I insist on updating here :

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/get-windows-10

    I'll try and we'll see ...

Yes Jack, I will mark it as resolved as soon as I'm done!

I believe it is clear that this is a bad idea:

Before using copies of the operating system from this site to perform an installation, reinstallation, or recovery on devices equipped with pre-installed operating systems, contact the manufacturer or the seller of the device to find out about the customized drivers and applications specific to your computer. Using the operating systems copied from this site to perform an installation, reinstallation, or recovery may void the technical support contract established with your manufacturer or seller. The drivers or programs installed by the manufacturer or seller of the device may be removed during the installation.

Thank you so much for your help Jack

    Hello

The transition to W10 is not recommended by the .iso, and there’s a reason why Microsoft does it through a prior analysis of the PC via Windows Update........
So, if you want to migrate to W10 (a very bad idea, it’s too early, wait until March 2016 for the already announced major fix....), you must go through the "official" route: Windows Update.

    Hello to you

Regardless, the use of the Microsoft module would have determined it, that's what I wanted to draw attention to.
