Windows 10 update: unable to play test tone

Hello,

While I had no issues with my ASUS G75V laptop running Windows 8.1, I updated to Windows 10 today.

And bad surprise: no sound since then. :-(

When I go to the audio device manager and test the speakers, the only supported frequency returns "unable to play test tone."

I've done all available updates through Windows Update, but there's no change.

Does anyone have an idea to resolve this issue?

In my case, I solved the problem like this:
- Open the Sound window (start menu and type "sound");
- Select the device that is causing the problem and click on Properties;
- In the Advanced Statistics tab, click on the Default Settings button, then click OK.
