Hello,
I have just been a victim of fraudulent online purchases with my credit card. Since no one, absolutely no one has access to my card, and since I only order from well-known and secure sites, I've come to the hypothesis that someone may have accessed my computer remotely.
I am not a tech expert at all and therefore don't know if this is possible and whether my internet network is linked to this fraud.
So, I went to "Network and Sharing Center" and I see that my connection is "public."
On forums, I read that I should set my connection to "private" or "home." One person even indicates that I should go to "troubleshoot homegroup" and that it will automatically suggest changing the public network to a private network.
I followed this procedure but absolutely nothing changed because it indicates that if I switch to a private connection, I will be able to access other people's computers, and other people will also be able to access my computer!!
I don't understand anything anymore. I thought the public network was a risk and that other people could access the computer, and finally, I discover that the private network (which by definition should be PRIVATE) is ultimately wide open for everyone.
What should I do? Is my computer protected on a public connection? If I switch to a private connection, why does a message indicate that everyone will have access to my computer?
Thank you for your help, I'm a bit lost.

Now let's return to the firewall issue.
There are 3 firewall profiles available:
- private network: the most permissive, useful when setting up a small home network with multiple machines, allows the use of the homegroup
- work network: same as private network, except no homegroup is possible
- public network: the most restrictive, no (local) network possible
