Hello,
what do the different passes of the Windows defragmentation program correspond to, and can they be interrupted without losing the initial phase of the defrag?

    Hello.
    You cannot stop the defragmentation.
    The different passes are executed to create space between the files, so that Windows can find them faster.
    It takes a long time, and it is better not to use your PC during the defragmentation.

    PS. Frequently create a restore point! It solves quite a few problems.

      Thank you for the reply, I am on pass 3 and the defragmentation has been running for 2 days. I wonder when the end of the tunnel will be since no information is provided regarding the total number of passes the defragmentation will perform.

      3 days is still a long time for this defragmentation.
