Hello, I was wondering if it's possible to compress an already compressed file to make it even smaller? Is that possible?

    Hello

It's possible to give it a try.
But it won't get bigger, so it's pointless...

the goal is to lose size not to gain it

        I understood perfectly.
Gaining space in terms of size would have been more sensible, I agree...
And even then, it’s not clear...

    Hi!

It's best to divide it into several parts.

With what software? Because for large files like 40GB vacation photos/videos, doing it by hand is quite slow.

        WinRAR does it!

But why do you want to compress it?
Is it a file or a folder?
Start by putting it in a lighter format before compressing.

In fact, it's a really big file, and I have to take it somewhere and my hard drive just crashed, so I'm trying to split it into the smallest possible parts across several USB sticks.

An external hard drive is ideal, and it's not expensive!
You plug the external hard drive into a USB port, you copy your files or the folder, and then you take the external hard drive to plug it into another computer.
I have three connected to my laptop.
