Hi everyone,
My laptop crashed, motherboard is dead.
I want to recover the hard drive as an external backup drive, especially since you can now find nice flashy colored boxes that allow us to turn an old drive into a great external drive.
Everything works wonderfully, I'm quite happy.
But on this drive, I have a Windows directory (and also Program Files) that I don't need.
I want to delete it.
It belongs to TrustedInstaller, OK, I've taken full control permissions on my account which is the administrator of the new laptop.
But I still can't delete it.
I keep getting an annoying message telling me that "you need permission from administrators to modify this folder."
Does anyone have a trick?
Thanks,
Fabbeauc

Hello,
I think your handling of the mentioned directories did not provide you with the necessary rights. The only way to achieve this is to take ownership of these directories.
1) right-click on the directory
2) select properties
3) click on the security tab
4) click on advanced
5) click on change owner
6) enter administrators and confirm
7) check: replace owner of subcontainers and objects
8) modify permissions for full control
9) check: replace all permission entries for child objects .....
10) apply

I've done everything you said, but I still get the message:
"you need permission from administrators to modify this folder".
Weird, right?
Thanks for your help.

Hello,
I still need your valuable services. I would like to remove TrustedInstaller but I can't seem to do it. It's too complicated for me. Thank you very much in advance.

Hi,
Just follow the instructions in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsGpBKu3A90
Explanations: https://www.malekal.com/comment-retirer-les-autorisations-trustedinstaller/
PS: if you come across tutorials that disable the TrustedInstaller service, be sure to set the startup type back to automatic.
Otherwise, you may encounter Windows update issues.

I have the same problem. A servicing folder that I cannot delete because I don't have permission from trusted installer.
First, I did:
run / services.msc / Windows Module Installer service / disable trustedinstaller.
It seemed to work at first, but the trustedinstaller permission quickly reappeared.
Then I changed the rights and permissions and the main owner, and applied it, the deletion could start but got interrupted. When I tried again, the owner was once again trustedinstaller with the rights and permissions.
I modified the owner several times (user, then administrator, then system) in various ways, and I am asked either for trustedinstaller's permission, or the administrator's, or the user's, or the system's, as if it wasn't my PC...
When I perform the action to change the owner (to add one in "advanced"), I noticed that there were many groups that seemed to be copies of my user, plus some codes before my user... I don't know what to do anymore! I'm afraid of doing something wrong!
I hope you can help me, I'm a beginner, even ccleaner doesn't have access, I am sure there is a spy, also a copy of my Avira software like shadow Avira, which makes my PC think it is activated, but it doesn't show up anywhere!! Anyway, no protection.. Thank you in advance.
