Hello,

I'm facing an embarrassing problem (and that's putting it mildly; if I can still have kids afterward, I might consider myself lucky...). When I want to modify my Hosts file, I can't... it tells me that TrustedInstaller needs to grant me permission...

How do I put a bullet between the eyes of this guy who's got more power than me?

More seriously, how can I stop seeing this message and gain full access to my PC?

Configuration: Windows 7

Well, I couldn't settle the score with that jerk...

But at least now he knows who he's up against...

To gain total control over your PC (which is normal, right? It's your PC after all...), you need to go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, right-click on Command Prompt, and run as administrator.

Then type: takeown /A /F "[folder path]/*"

You will have full access to this directory

You will have to repeat this for each folder :/

If you only need one file, you can choose to replace the asterisk with the name of that file to gain control only over that one.

Together, let's take back control of our PCs!!!!!

if it can help:

-Right-click on the folder you want to modify-
-then select Properties
-in the Security tab, click the Advanced button at the bottom
-go to the Audit tab, and click Continue
-click Add and choose an administrator account, generally the name of the PC, then click Check Names and click OK
-click Modify, check Full Control and click OK
-go to the Owner tab where we choose the administrator account indicated as the owner and click OK to close all dialog boxes
-right-click again on the folder we want to modify then select Properties
-go to the Security tab
-click on a group or username, now the Modify button is no longer grayed out, click Modify
-click Add and enter the name of the administrator account, then click the Check Names button and then OK
-in Group or username select the account name and below check Full Control then click OK
-close all dialog boxes with OK

and now you can open/delete any file that requires permission from TrustedInstaller
