Inability to select special characters

Hello,
I have been unable to insert special characters into my texts for a few weeks now. The cursor no longer moves, or only moves from subset to subset, if any.
Who can help me? I have been using Word 7 for years and this problem is very, very recent.

Configuration: Windows / Chrome 42.0.2311.135

    Hello,

    Word 7 ?!? Probably 2007 ;-)
    If the problem is recent, it might be due to the installation of a complementary "tool" that Word doesn't like.
    Try launching Word in safe mode: hold down the CTRL key and open Word. See if it works better. If so, we'll look at the next step.
    Otherwise, try repairing Office:
    click on the Office button, Word Options, Resources (on the left), Diagnostic button.

      Thank you C-Claire,
      I did what you suggested.
      For now, I can insert characters, but in "take your time" mode, meaning going through the "special characters" tab and then "symbols," I can then move the cursor to the desired character and insert it.
      But it is still impossible to insert a character that has already been inserted (bottom line).
      I'm dealing with it... and to insert two characters, I go back to the "special characters" section and return to the "symbols" tab.

        Do you have many fonts other than those installed with your software?
        And do you have this issue with a particular font in the special characters box?

        If not, since this problem is recent, I would suggest doing a system restore to a date prior to this anomaly.
