How to bypass the 50-character limit in a menu

Hello,
I need to create dropdown lists with fairly long text, sometimes exceeding the 50-character limit of the legacy tools in Word 2010.
I know that by using the new tools, this limit disappears, but I have not yet found a proper explanation to generate a dropdown menu with these new tools. In the legacy tools, it was really simple; we had a menu and we added text line by line, but with the new ones??? it's a fog!
Any ideas?

    Hello.

    What is it exactly about:
    * drop-down menu, created with Form Controls or with ActiveX Controls
    or
    * cell drop-down list, created with Data/Data Validation/List?

    Here, I inserted a "content control for a dropdown list"
    Then I clicked on "Properties"
    Once the pop-up menu was activated, I clicked on Add and typed the items, and I was indeed able to exceed the 50-character limit
    The issue I had during execution was that I had checked in Locking "Do not delete the content control" and "Do not modify the content" - which meant that I couldn't read the list content.
    But without checking these two options, the dropdown works perfectly
