Hello,

I just signed up on this forum (April 2, 2015) in the hope that someone can explain the problem my antenna installer cannot solve. And this is not an April Fool's joke! Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

For 5 years, I’ve had a Bisat satellite dish with 4 lnb heads: AB3 (Eutelsat), HotBird, Astra 1, Astra 2, a DiSEqC switch and a SIMBA HD FRANSAT decoder with no additional paid bouquet. I live in a house near Chartres but outside the city, the antenna is on the roof, firmly fixed, and the land is clear. Everything has always worked perfectly. For the past two weeks (mid-March 2015), on AB3, the sound starts clacking every evening around 8:30 PM, then the picture freezes, then everything stops (message “no signal”). Of all the channels in the FRANSAT bouquet, only FR3 works correctly and with a nice image.

On Astra 2 (English channels), things worsen from 10 PM, but much less (just clacks and brief picture blockings). Moreover, during this outage, the power/quality indicator not only drops from 70 (a figure I think arbitrary and relative) to 40 but also it “vibrates” continuously and very rapidly between these two limits. Everything returns to normal around 1 AM: the image is again perfect and the power/quality indicator stabilizes for all 4 satellites.

My installer checked the aiming and all the connections. He found nothing. By the way, during the day the image is excellent. He did, however, replace the DiSEqC as a precaution. But the problem reproduced that same evening at the same time. Obviously he isn’t there to go up on the roof between 8:30 PM and 1 AM!!!

If it were the SIMBA decoder at fault, it wouldn’t go berserk at fixed times every day! And if the antenna were pointed at the limit of reception, the image wouldn’t be very good all day and the rest of the night, and the signal wouldn’t be considered excellent on the installer’s control device graphs.

I should note, just in case, that no electrical appliance in the house turns on at the outage times.

Thanks again for any suggestions.

Thank you for your reply. Regarding the issue of electromagnetic interference, what can cause interference at a fixed time every day? Neighbors consulted have nothing like that. We have looked online, but neither I nor my antenna technician have found anything about "fixed-time breakdowns." We are still continuing to search in that direction. Thank you.
