Hello,
my friend’s computer has not been working since lightning struck the house. The power supply is running, the drives and fans (processor + motherboard) are also running. However, it no longer sends a signal to the screen (the screen remains black but does not show any "no signal" message).
I opened the case, and nothing seems burned, at least not at first glance. The only strange thing is that the monitor plug at the back has a lot of play (could she have forced it to unplug the monitor???).
She does not have a video card; it is integrated into the motherboard, so it's difficult to see anything…
If anyone has an idea of what could be wrong… or a solution to this problem…
Thank you in advance
FD

Hi.
Check the cable or better yet, try another screen on the same PC.
If not, it's the motherboard that has been affected...

I've already tried with other screens without success!!! The cables being those of the screens, the problem doesn't come from there.
How can I be sure that it is indeed the global motherboard that has been affected and not the monitor's connections?
Can the motherboard be blown and still power the fans, the drives, etc...?
Is there anything I can do about it?
Thank you in advance

I had this problem before after a storm... Except that my PC completely burned out. My motherboard fried, my graphics card was dead, and my hard drive was also gone... Your screen must have suffered a surge with the storm... Next time, use a UPS. Since I installed one, I haven't had this kind of problem anymore.

The connection of your screen is an integral part of your motherboard, so it's the motherboard that has an issue.
Besides, with another screen, it's the same problem, so, as you said, the screen seems to be out of the question.
Can the motherboard be fried and still power the fans, drives, etc...?
Yes, even though in your case, only the graphics circuit seems to have been affected.
It's still an interesting thing to test to see:
plug your screen into the power outlet without connecting it to your computer and see if it displays "no signal".
