Here's the situation, I've had an Archos Gmini 402 for a year that was working well, but for a week it's been glitching everywhere: it got stuck on startup but I managed to unlock it thanks to your forum (thank you very much) and now it got stuck while playing music so I rebooted it but when I turned it back on surprise!!!! an error message tells me that it is impossible to read on the disk!!!! and it suggests formatting. And while it is starting up, it makes a clicking sound?!!!!
What should I do to avoid losing my data and especially to make it work again?

Hello,
To answer everyone, just disassemble the back of the Archos (with the appropriate screwdriver, so as not to damage the plate) where you will find a "reset" button/key; press it. Reassemble the device and turn it on again, normally your Archos system has been reset (this does not mean erased, so you keep the data that was there).
This is the only method I managed to use to unlock mine. You risk nothing by trying this.
If after this it still doesn't work, well good luck to you, and I look forward to your responses on how you resolved your issue.

I have exactly the same problem as Dana. When I turn it on, my Archos Gmini 402 gets stuck on the home page (the one that just says Gmini402, Archos, on the go). I can't do anything, but after a complete recharge, the computer detects the Archos, but it says there is an unknown problem.

my achos won't start anymore, every time I start it there is a message saying impossible to read from the disk. I tried to format it but it doesn't work. For 10 minutes it seems like it's formatting but then it writes the same thing again. What should I do to format it, please?

I had exactly the same problem! So I thought I would recover my files from the computer and format it afterwards! Unfortunately, I couldn't open the folder on the computer! So I formatted it (disgusted to lose everything)! I was able to turn it back on, but it was empty, so it was useless! But since then, I can't add files to it! It keeps asking me to format it every time :s I can only turn it on when it's empty!!

My Archos 402 also bugged at startup, so I took it apart, looked at my hard drive, and then reassembled it. Now it says format, and when I press on it, it says no drive found, something like that ^^'

Hello, I had the same problem that just resolved itself: plug the gmini (400 in my case) into the computer with the USB cable and unplug it (the computer didn't detect it even though the gmini screen said "connected", but that's okay), the gmini updates the file library and then magic!! I can see my files again, listen to my music, etc...

Hello! I have an Archos 402, it was given to me but it's very new, however, it does not start up anymore. It lights up for like 2 seconds and then it turns off, there's no way to turn it back on. I don’t know anything about it! Is there someone who can help me or tell me where I can get it repaired since I don't have the warranty! Thank you!
