Hello,
I have a problem when I plug the USB cable to connect my Archos 404 to my computer. A message appears saying "USB device not recognized."
However, the USB reader works perfectly fine when I plug in, for example, my USB flash drive.
Thank you for your help.

Hi,
uninstall and reinstall the driver for your Archos
otherwise
uninstall and reinstall the USB bus controllers.

Thank you, but can you explain to me how to proceed?
I have never installed drivers for my Archos? Where can I find that?

What operating system do you use? Windows XP, Vista? Which service pack?
In the device manager, does your Archos appear?
If so, is it yellow?
I also found this:
Video players with the PlaysForSure™ logo are pre-configured to be recognized as a “Windows Device” when connected to your computer. If you do not have Windows® XP Service Pack 1 or later AND Windows Media Player 10 installed, then your computer may prompt you to install a driver when you connect your player (with a USB cable). In this case, disconnect your Archos player, go to "System" on the ARCHOS player, and change the "USB Port" setting to "Hard Drive". Now reconnect your Archos player to your computer. It will be automatically recognized as an external hard drive.
It might be a setting to change on the device.

The operating system I am using is Windows XP SP2.
In the device manager, the Archos does not appear, there is an unknown device that appears.
I do have Windows Media Player 10 and I have changed the settings, but the problem remains the same...

apparently there is no driver for this device
is this the first time it has happened or did your PC recognize your Archos before?
otherwise, connect it to another PC and you'll know for sure

I just received the Archos and my PC has never recognized it.
I'll try it on another PC, we'll see.
Thank you.
