Hello,
I have an image (jpg) with a white background and I would like to have this image with a transparent background. Is it possible to do this in InDesign without using Photoshop?
I tried it this way: I imported the image into InDesign and created a clipping mask. Then I changed the background to transparent, so in InDesign I indeed have a transparent background. But when I want to export the image to save it again as a jpg, the background still appears white.
What am I doing wrong?
Thank you very much for your help!!

No, it's logical..
When you create a mask and apply it to the image.. the mask is associated with InDesign, while the image itself remains the same...
However, if you create a mask based on edge detection (menu "Object / Mask / Options"), exporting the selection as a JPG will be based on what is displayed on the screen..

Unfortunately, I still don’t understand...
I go to object/mask/options... and I check "create a mask based on edge detection." When I export to JPG, I still have a white background. I have the English version of InDesign, but I believe I did what you suggested I try...
Thank you a thousand times!
When you save an image with a mask and contour detection from InDesign as a JPG, you export the image as it is. The contour detection makes the white background transparent in InDesign (which allows you to place it on a colored background, for example).
However, the JPG format does not allow for the inclusion of a mask; if you want a transparent background retrieved from InDesign, you need to save it in PNG format (you must select the image and check "selection" in the export window).
