Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 3000 v2.0 Keyboard Question

Hello.

I am using Windows 7 SP1 32-bit Home Premium Edition on a desktop PC.
I recently purchased the keyboard mentioned in the subject of this post to replace the previous wired model. With the latter, when I had VLC running in the background, I could start/pause the audio playback in VLC with the dedicated key on the keyboard even if VLC wasn't active (for example, when I am in another application). Now, I have to make the VLC window active for the key to have an effect, which is not very useful.
I checked the settings, looked to see if this issue was referenced, but found nothing helpful. I set the path of VLC for the Audio key (the fourth from the left) and VLC is indeed launched, but then the start/pause key, as well as the next/previous track keys, are ineffective as long as the VLC window is not active (visible on the screen or indicated as active in the taskbar).
Does anyone have a lead to give me?

Thanks in advance.

After a few attempts, it seems that the keyboard only works well with Windows apps because I tried it with Windows Media Player and it works as expected. This does not explain why it worked with the same keyboard but an older model.
    Thank you $soft.

    Hello.

Does anyone have a more precise explanation than my observation on this issue?

    Thank you in advance.
