mouse stuck in the center of the screen

Question

Hello,

my mouse cursor is stuck in the center of the screen (on XP Pro), and I don't know what to do anymore... that's why I'm asking for your help...

it's impossible to navigate with the mouse (PS/2 port) but the keyboard works fine.
I've tried another mouse (PS/2 port), still the same problem.
I've tried another mouse (USB port), still the same issue; the USB port is working fine, as it operates with USB sticks, speakers, etc.
I took a look in the BIOS, nothing seems abnormal to me
I checked in the device manager, the mouse does not appear
I tried in safe mode, still the same problem
I swapped the power supply, still the same issue
after numerous restarts, the mouse started working again; I shut down and restarted the PC several times, no problem
the next morning when I turned on the PC, the mouse was stuck in the middle of the screen again
I decided to reinstall Windows (with formatting), still no mouse; I completed the installation using the keyboard.
I've tried restarting several times, still the mouse cursor is stuck in the center of the screen.
I have one or two more things to try tomorrow, and I'll be completely out of ideas.

if anyone has a solution, I'm all ears....

Hello,
I don't really understand your question, but for me, there's no problem with the USB. I don't get it because I thought that formatting and completely reinstalling Windows XP would solve the issue...

Originally, a PS/2 mouse
tried a USB mouse (on all USB ports) and the pointer is still stuck in the center of the screen
tried a USB stick on all ports and the USB stick is recognized everywhere
tried another USB mouse, and the pointer is still stuck in the center of the screen....

I'm going to try to give some information

For the mice, I thought about trying them on another PC, and they all work.

I read the motherboard manual, and now I understand the story about 5V and 5V standby (currently set to 5VSB), for 5VSB there must be at least 2 Amps and a higher standby current supplied by the power supply.
I changed the power supply because it was acting up, and I noticed 3 issues:
1) I barely had 3V on the 3V (other voltages were fine)
2) when I turned on the speakers (via USB) with the PC running, the PC turned off. If I turned on the speakers and then started the PC, it worked...
3) when I shut down the PC, I couldn't restart it; I had to wait a few minutes....
Since changing the power supply, I don't have these problems anymore

I finally found a battery, I will try to change the battery and clear the CMOS and see what happens
then I will set the PS/2 USB to 5V (maybe there will be a voltage drop during startup)

clear cmos and changing the battery, pointer still stuck in the center of the screen.
jumper switched from 5v normal to 5vsb, still stuck
tried "tinkering" in the bios:
[any key] for ps/2 keyboard power on
[enabled] for HPET table
[AHCI] for sata configure
[enabled] for legacy usb support
and then the mouse (PS/2) works
I restart the pc and pointer stuck in the center of the screen
I restart with the usb mouse and it works
I restart several times, and it seems to hold
I don't know if my "tinkering" in the bios has anything to do with it, but it's definitely better than nothing... hoping it holds for a while...

now I'm wondering if there's a problem with the motherboard, like a "cracked" solder joint causing a bad contact, I really can't see why it only works sometimes, especially after formatting and reinstalling xp.
I will try to find detailed documentation on the bios to know what all the settings correspond to, but for now I can breathe a little...
