Hello, I have a problem with a portable p. bell that crashed. I'm trying to reinstall Win 7 with the CD. It asks me where I want to install:
disk 0 partition 298.1 GB
unallocated space on disk 9.0 MB
I check disk 0 to install win continue all required info ok
but when I get to copying files, I get an error message:
Windows could not format the partition on disk 0 error code 0x80070057
I searched the forum and I'm trying to format with diskpart I find:
disk 0 online 298 GB
I try clean all and get a message:
diskpart encountered an error: the request could not be completed due to an I/O error. See the event log for more info!
Do you know what this means?
Configuration: Windows Vista / Firefox 26.0

I open the command prompt from my Windows 7 CD:
x:\sources> diskpart
I type diskpart>list disk
disk no status size free dyn gpt
disk 0 online 298 GB 9 MB
>select disk 0
the disk is now the selected disk
>list partition
partition no type size offset
partition 1 primary 298 GB 31K
x:\sources> diskpart

Hello
For a tattooed PC, you should keep the old partition and install it on another partition

Hello,
Tattooing was stopped before W7, it seems to me. And even if one of them were present, there is no reason it should prohibit the reinstallation of W7. It prevents, if I remember correctly, the reinstallation with the internal recovery if the mbr has been modified (for example with a dual boot linux). Reinstallation from the recovery DVD remained possible, especially in the case of hard drive replacement, which is somewhat logical.
Since you know diskpart. Do
Give the result (upload a photo on cjoint, if possible). But the combination of W7 crashed & reinstallation impossible seems to indicate a hard drive problem... so, check that.

Good evening and thank you, the problem is that I don't know what to do with this GParted and this unallocated partition of 298.09 GiB ........... I think if there's someone who doesn't understand much, it's me !!!!
Thank you, I’m looking at the tutorials but my problem is
1° I don't have: /dev/hda but /dev/sda written at the top right in the disk box
2° my partition is unallocated and not /dev/hda1
3° my system is unallocated and not ntfs
4° when I select the partition I can't go to resize, only to new
this whole story is not simple for me ..........

why -1
I am not allowed to educate myself ??????
I have never needed this kind of software to fix this I/O error
after a destruction of the MBR, it needs to be rebuilt
the Windows Vista and 7 DVDs have the recovery console
command fixmbr and fixboot, and Repair the system
https://forums.cnetfrance.fr/tutoriels-windows-7-8-et-autres-sytemes/171595-reparer-le-boot-et-le-mbr-avec-fixboot-et-fixmbr-ntldr-manque
otherwise recreate the partition, format it, and reinstall Windows

when you wanted to reinstall Windows
didn't you have the option to Repair the first time???
there are other topics for different cases
Windows 7 = http://www.chantal11.com/2009/04/installer-reparer-windows-7-mise-a-niveau-sans-perte-donnees-et-logiciels-seven/
Vista is more in line with XP
https://www.commentcamarche.net/informatique/windows/25-verifier-et-reparer-des-fichiers-systeme-avec-windows-10/
for XP, we could (or can we still???) download the recovery console separately
no link on the web page in English, I'm already stealing enough on my own

Hello,
I would like to know if diskpart /list disk displays an asterisk under GPT (or not).
Type the following command: if you have error lines (lines 4 and 5), ignore them and move on. For the other lines, tell me which line you have an error on.
To summarize, I’ll have you delete the current partitions (clean), then convert the disk to basic and MBR (just in case it isn’t), and finally create an NTFS partition that we make active, meaning bootable.
Therefore, your installation disk should see it. The operation can of course be done with GParted.
@ vieux bison: the commands fixmbr and fixboot no longer exist on W7. They have been replaced by bootrec /fixmbr and bootrec /fixboot. Additionally, using XP to repair the MBR of W7 will install an MBR that will require the ntldr file and not the bootmgr file. This is not very important for a reinstall (which will erase the MBR anyway), but it's worth being precise.
@menu65: GParted is only used to partition and format, just like the diskpart command does. And pgui is right to say that "we understand nothing" of your interventions, written in a telegram style. I don’t understand anything either.

Ok, I will start and let you know the results.
Everything is fine until convert basic: non-dynamic disk ....... select ........ I’ll proceed as indicated!
convert mbr OK
create partition OK
format fs.......... diskpart encountered an error: incorrect parameter.
for more information, see the system event log.
I won't go any further!!!! I’m waiting for your instructions please, thank you!!
I forgot, for the * it’s under disk number: *disk 0

First, we have an explanation of your problem: the disk was in GPT format... At this point, you should be able to install your W7 directly.
As for the command, my apologies, I forgot a line... just to finish the procedure:

Re,
The image doesn't help me.... I was hoping to see a UEFI/legacy option to see what setting is proposed by default.
Look to see if you can find that option somewhere. Also, check for the AHCI option, and if it is set to automatic, try changing it to manual.
Finally, try formatting again, this time with GParted (and take a photo of what is displayed as well). You never know; it might be more effective than Diskpart.

Okay, I'm looking, but in the meantime, I'm giving you the GParted images (sorry if they're huge) https://www.cjoint.com/c/DAlwO0A1wPv. Regarding this, I provided information for the first partition https://www.cjoint.com/c/DAlwW47TYa1. Okay, now I'll return to the wood.

The trap below is usually made in a minimum size of 11.5 x 7.5 cm and is secured by two cross-head screws
cross-head screwdriver with a diameter of 3 mm

re
just use gparted to format and install
https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/utilitaires/11343-gparted/
you need to format the unallocated partition and then extend the partition
be careful when booting gparted to choose the aserty keyboard
