My PC does not detect the ethernet cable

Hello,

I just bought a laptop with Windows 8. When I started it up, I skipped the option to connect to a Wi-Fi network since I don't have one. On the desktop, I launched Internet Explorer and tests started. As suggested, I plugged in my Ethernet cable, which is connected on the other end to my Freebox ADSL, but the computer refuses to recognize the cable (its message: poorly connected or defective). I tried with another Ethernet cable (same response), and then with a USB cable which it did not recognize for a connection. I was wondering if there might be a setting to activate or deactivate to make it recognize a wired network.
Note that I'm writing to you from my old laptop using this Ethernet cable that Windows 8 refuses.
I am open to all your suggestions.

Thank you.

Try connecting your Ethernet cable to another electronic system (PS3, Xbox, etc.) and see if the cable works. If it does, a setting must be disabled on your PC, and if it doesn't work, you will need to buy a new cable.

Hello,

Yes, I believe in your suggestion about the parameter in the PC because I've tried two cables and I'm currently using one to reply to you, so it works. However, I'll still borrow one to do a new test.

Thanks

Thank you, iDiezz. I just checked on my PC for the Ethernet cable network: the driver dates back to 2012 and everything seems fine. I'll try another cable tomorrow.
