Hello,

I have an HP Photosmart C4280 that displays the message "cartridge damaged or missing"; is there anyone who has a solution to outsmart planned obsolescence and thus continue using it without having to buy a new one? Thank you very much in advance!

Hello,

Hello again,

I have translated the video that would possibly explain how to solve your issue.
And here are the steps:

Press the "On/Power" and "Cancel" (the red cross) buttons at the same time.

On the screen, a message indicates to enter a special key combination ("Enter special key combo" in English)

The combination is as follows:

1°) Blue (top button)

2°) Green (bottom button)

3°) Grey (middle button)
You are now in the special maintenance menu.

Then, press the grey button to scroll through the maintenance menu items.

When "information menu" appears on the screen, confirm with the green button (bottom)

Press the grey button in the middle until "Checksum for relock data input" appears.

Press the green button to confirm.

Then press Cancel three times slowly to finally return to the home screen.

This should normally work.

From what I understood, the message is due to the fact that you are using compatibles instead of original cartridges....
Just to be clear: is that the case, or not?

Best regards.

Hello, it's great that it worked, but I have to start over every time, and I just wanted to say that I've always used HP cartridges! Thank you.

Hello, for a while my HP C4480 printer was showing me this error message: "incompatible cartridges" even though I was using original cartridges, and by removing and reinserting them, I could make the message disappear. But the other day, it was impossible! I went to the repair shop where they called HP. HP supposedly can do something, but for €180!!! My repairman made it very clear to me that this is planned obsolescence unfortunately, and he has several cases like this. So I come across you and I try it, and it WORKS!!! I sincerely thank you for your post. It’s nice to have solutions from strangers who aren’t even paid to give them to us! THANK YOU
