MozBackup restore issue

Solved

Good evening,

I have a big problem and I’m seeking your help. After reformatting, I’m trying to restore my profile Firefox (saved by MozBackup), but an error message appears after trying to open the folder in question and entering the password: "The selected file is not a valid backup file".
I have verified that the installed Mozilla version and my backup (a .pcv file) are the same version 21 and that the MozBackup installed for the backup is the same as the one used for the restoration.
Has anyone got a solution to this problem?

Thank you for your responses! This is very worrying because I obviously have a lot of essential data in this profile!

Hi,

have you tried renaming your .pcv file to .zip and extracting its contents?

Thank you for your reply! And sorry if my questions may seem naive, I'm not a computer whiz.

I just renamed my file to .zip.
To restore my profile, do I need to put the contents of the Zip file in place of what the current profile contains?

What Windows are you on?

Tell me what the extracted zip folder contains please

Windows 7
It contains a lot of files, almost everything you find in a Mozilla profile in roaming:

bookmarks
extensions
zotero
about a dozen sqlite files (including sessionstore)
JSON / RDF files

Hard to list them all, I had saved my profile completely.

The problem is that they are marked as "protected", I guess it’s related to the fact that I set a password with mozbackup. Could that cause issues later or will the protection come off?

Thank you for your help!
The instructions from your last link aren’t super clear; I imagined that copying and pasting from the old to the new would be enough... apparently it isn’t as simple as that...
I’m going to tackle the task, we’ll see...

Have a very good evening!

Now that you renamed it to .zip, you can try restoring directly with MozBackup to see how it turns out ;)

However, I also fully backed up my old profile since I completely copied the contents of my hard drive before reformatting. So on a USB drive in my backup I have: user / AppData / Mozilla / Firefox / Profiles / 111umxxx.default
Can we imagine that one could replace the other with a single click and that I would recover all my data this way, or is it totally illusory?

Oh yes, then in that case yes, it’s possible ;)

So you do this:

For your proposal above: mozbackup does not recognize the .zip, presumably it only opens the PCV?

drop it and do what I just gave you above ;)

All good! :-) My habit of saving everything in many different formats and on as many supports as possible saved me! Everything is restored, including the extensions, and it’s my Zotero data that mattered most in this case! A big thank you! Have a good evening
