Hello everyone,

I have a little problem that is really starting to get on my nerves: when I use my laptop (SONY Vaio brand), the screen brightness decreases by itself after a few minutes, sometimes even within seconds.

It’s quite annoying because I can hardly see anything as the brightness goes down to the minimum level.

I have tried the usual techniques to adjust the default screen brightness (control panel, "adjust screen brightness" icon, I even tried changing the power plan: normal usage/high performance/power saving)... Nothing works, the brightness keeps dropping after a while...

Since I'm not really tech-savvy, I wanted to see if anyone had a solution to my problem?

I've finally found the solution (on a forum), so I'm sharing it here in case someone encounters the same issue:
To disable the brightness sensor, you need to:

- Click on Start,

- Type "VAIO Control Center" in the "Search programs and files" box,

- Click on "Display",

- Click on "Automatic Brightness Settings",

- Uncheck the "Automatic Brightness Settings" option by clicking on the box,

- Click on "Apply".

There you go ;)

Fantastic! Thank you so much, I was seriously starting to have headaches because of this and the after-sales service people, always very efficient, were advising me to send it for repair to change the internal components... No comment

I had a second problem: as soon as the computer comes out of sleep mode, the fan runs continuously, hot air or not, I have to turn off the PC every time...

Just in case someone else has the same problem, I'm asking the question ;-)

I had already done this manipulation: I had selected "dim display" to "2 hours."
So I followed your advice, I selected "never"... and here we go again, after 2 minutes, the brightness resets to its minimum level...

It's incomprehensible...

Are you sure you want to save the changes?

If so, return to: Edit the power management settings.. > (in blue) Edit advanced power settings > scroll down to Display and click on the + > click the + on Dim display after.. And set it as you wish > apply / ok and that should do it :)

Yes, I have successfully recorded the changes
I also tried as you advised: "modify advanced power settings", "display" and I changed the brightness percentage of the display.
But the problem returns, the screen darkens... after 5 minutes (that’s something, at least!).

I wonder if it might be due to some malware that I accidentally installed, because even my friend who is very skilled in computing, can't solve the problem...
Maybe by completely resetting the computer, the problem will disappear (but that’s a bit time-consuming)...

Worst case, create a message on the Virus/security side if you have doubts (I don't know how to do it, at least not as well as the helpers..)

Very good idea to move my message to the "virus, security, I hadn't thought of that!
And indeed, if I can't find a solution, a full reset would be the last resort.
