Hello everyone, I’m getting back to you after months of absence (I had simply forgotten the name of the forum!!) to solve a little problem that’s been bothering me since this morning:
my trackpad works very well, my click button too (even though I don’t use it, I click directly by tapping the trackpad), I can click, click and drag, select, etc., in short everything you can normally do with a click...
BUT I can no longer open my files and folders by double-clicking on them :(
I can do it by other means, but they are more cumbersome and longer.
I would like to get back the opening of my files by double-clicking, does anyone have an idea?
For your information, I had a problem two days ago with a blank DVD+R that crashed my computer (spinning endlessly, DVD spinning non-stop, impossible to eject, impossible to restart or turn off the computer in a “soft” way, Finder not responding, etc.). I had to turn off the computer twice by holding down the power button :( I know it’s not good, but nothing else was working. I’m not sure if it’s related...
Thank you for your help :)
I almost forgot, I’m on a MacBook, OS 10.4.9, Intel Core Duo processor.

After an abnormal shutdown of a Mac, it is recommended to do the following:
- Start the Mac by holding down the Command and S keys until you hear the startup chime
- A Terminal-like screen will be displayed, then type the command: fsck -yf
- Wait
- If any repairs occurred, then run this command again
- If no repairs were made, then type the command: reboot
- Then log in as an administrator and launch the tool: Applications / Utilities / Disk Utility
- Select the system disk and
- Run Repair Permissions.

I'll keep it safe!
However, it didn't solve my double click problem.
And then I thought of something... my son played one of his games on the computer the other day, and even though I had the reflex this morning to check the mouse/trackpad preferences, I hadn't noticed anything unusual.
This time, I moved the cursor, just to see (by chance)... it was at maximum speed. I just lowered it by two or three notches, and that’s it, I got my double click back :)
pfffffff... all these issues for so little!!
I’ll need to think about creating his user section (to be fair, it's only been a few days since he's been allowed to play on the MacBook, the CD drive of the old iMac having given up the ghost last week).
Thank you.
I was really frustrated with opening files and docking them with the double click!
I looked everywhere... it was just the speed of the double click in the System preferences!!!!
A big thank you!!!
