keyboard suddenly slow! Solved/Closed

Question

Hello everyone. I wanted to ask you please if you could help me with a problem with my keyboard. Suddenly, my keyboard has become slow. For example, I have to press a key for at least 5 seconds for it to register, but on the other hand, it responds quickly when I'm in the BIOS or with shortcut keys (internet, sleep, favorites...). My keyboard is a POLAROID
model: 9001 URF (TX)

Hello, I had the same problem on a computer. Check if the box is not enabled in: Control Panel/Accessibility Options/Sticky Keys Uncheck the Use Sticky Keys box if checked.

Same problem, my laptop keyboard has been very, very slow since last night while everything else is working normally... I should mention that it's a laptop (just in case...)

SAME!!! It's crazy!!!!!! Luckily there's the on-screen keyboard :s (start/programs/accessories/accessibility/on-screen keyboard)... it's annoying but it works while waiting for a solution to this insane problem :( anyway, all ideas are welcome because this is really frustrating, and at this point I'm going to end up breaking my mouse too :'(

Well, for me it was a restart in safe mode... which actually crashed... so I rebooted... and everything works perfectly... strange

So besides safe mode or system restore, I don't see any other solutions...

Hello, I'm not sure a slow keyboard actually exists, guys...  It's either one of two things: either you've caught a virus, or your computer is bogged down with processes.  To confirm this, start in safe mode; if it works fine that way, then I'm right. All that will be left is to fix it. Don't go breaking your keyboards without being sure. ^^ -- Save the cheerleader, save the world...

Let me summarize:
keyboard extremely slow
system resources remain normal, no other issues
happened suddenly, no program or hardware installed

only solution found, which doesn't fully resolve the problem, but is a good lead:
control panel/system/advanced/performance options
click on adjust for best performance

there, we end up with a look and feel of W2K, but at least it works

Hello, I encountered the same problem on a
Toshiba Satellite M40X after a complete reinstallation.
The issue was resolved after 3 actions:
- optimization for performance (i.e., Control Panel/system/advanced/performance) thanks to mabrouklepoux's post
- installation of the Hotkey driver (from the Toshiba site)
- restart

For the same issue
Slow keyboard except in safe mode and after trying a lot of things I thank miloux34 because it was ultimately the fact of checking the box Control Panel/Accessibility Options/Sticky Keys that was causing the problem

I have the same problem as you guys. I've tried all the tips mentioned in the forum... but it works from time to time... I think my problem comes from a congestion of processes... I noticed in the task manager that there are a lot of processes while there is only one application open... How can I solve this problem?  Thanks for your help  Please help

Hi, I had exactly the same keyboard lag issue.
But, to debunk many common misconceptions, the problem didn't come from an external phenomenon, but rather from Windows itself!

I fixed the lag and got my keyboard to be fast and responsive simply by uninstalling an update KB!
The lag appeared just after this update!

If you updated your Windows with KB950749, just uninstall it and restart to get your trusty keyboard back.

Control panel/Add or remove programs/
check Show updates
search for the Windows update KB950749 and click Remove.
Then restart.

The result is immediate.

Remove the battery if it's a laptop! If that's the case, drain it and replace it!

You can keep working with your battery, unplug it and wait for it to drain. Plug it back in with the battery, it will recharge. If the problem comes back, remove it. I'm glad you're as happy as I was when I found the solution.

For what it's worth, my keyboard had the same symptoms as yours. Here’s what I did and it worked:

1. To check if it’s indeed the same problem, go to Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete) then look for a program called ati2evxx (there's a friend called ati2evxy but we don't care about him). So you "kill" it (click on it and select "End process" at the bottom right)
Then go to WordPad and if all goes well, that means it’s indeed the cause of the issue.

To delete it permanently:
2. Control Panel / Performance and Maintenance / Administrative Tools / Services
Here you will see a page displaying a list of programs. Look for Ati Hotkey Poller, double-click on it, in the dropdown menu find Disable, then click Apply and that’s it!!!

What a relief to have a working keyboard!!!!

Hello, After trying everything and being on the verge of sending my phone for repair, in a last-ditch effort I did this: 1. turn off the PC 2. unplug the power cord and all cables (internet, printer, etc.) 3. remove the battery 4. press the power button for 30 seconds 5. plug it back in, turn it on.... No more issues.  It seems to be an electricity issue on the motherboard... in any case, it works! Paul

Yes, battery issue. It needs to be removed and plugged into the mains. Still, after 6 months with my battery dead, I bought a new battery online. No more problems and we can watch a 2-hour movie on battery life.

Thank you to the one who suggested that it could be the battery: my Acer laptop's keyboard had become super slow. I removed the battery and it worked! Anyway, I was always running on AC power because the battery was weak!

I found this info about those infamous keyboards with a very long response time. It seems to come from the keyboard shortcut that activates Filter Keys.
Applies to Seven, Vista, XP

To use the shortcut to enable or disable Filter Keys, hold down the Shift key for at least 8 seconds. (If a box appears, choose to disable the shortcut)
