Initialisation DD impossible - "Cyclic Redundancy Check"

Hello everyone,

I've looked everywhere and found people with the same problem as mine but without any answer.

Let me explain: I got a new 160 GB 2.5" SATA hard drive from Hitachi that was intended for an Orange decoder. I want to use it as an external hard drive.
When I put it in an external case (which works because I've checked it) and connect it with its Y USB, the device is recognized but does not appear in My Computer.
Then, in "Disk Management", I can't initialize the disk; I get an error message: "Cyclic redundancy check".

Given that there are other people in my situation with the same hardware, I don't think the disk is dead.

If anyone has a solution, I’d be grateful!

Thanks!

Configuration: Windows 7 / Chrome 24.0.1312.57

Hi,
you can try with diskpart or test disk...
but make sure not to select the wrong disk
start --> search type:
cmd
then type
diskpart
then type
list disk

try to identify it by its size, if you're sure about the disk and it’s recognized, we can attempt a clean...
first let me know if you see it and identify it (to avoid selecting the wrong disk...)

Multiple issues sometimes create one solution...

Hey, sorry but normally you shouldn't... you have to be sure...
Don't you have any other disks of the same size?

The print screen is too small, I can't see it, but if they have a different size and you've spotted it, that's fine...
If so,
tell me which disk it is (number).

Sorry, I got the link wrong, it's this one:

Yes, I'm sure, I only have my main hard drive of 250GB (on the label) and the external one connected right now of 160. So without a doubt, it’s "Disk 3".
